The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck 和 Models: Attract Women through Honesty。
What the fuck is the point of this book?
本书的宗旨是要转变我们看问题的视角,从而想清楚自己生活中什么重要、什么不重要;同时,把痛苦转化成工具和力量,将大烦恼化解为可以解决的小问题 (turn your pain into a tool, your trauma into power, and your problems into slightly better problems)。
(This book will not teach you how to gain or achieve, but rather how to lose and let go)。
第一章,作者详细阐述了“the subtle art of not giving a f*ck “的三个核心内涵:
Subtlety #1: Not giving a fuck does not mean being indifferent; it means being comfortable with being different.
真正的不在乎,是指做事完全遵循自己的价值观,不介意表现得与众不同(the willingness to be different, an outcast, a pariah, all for the sake of one's own values)。
Subtlety #2: To not give a fuck about adversity, you must first give a fuck about something more important than adversity.
(If you find yourself consistently giving too many fucks about trivial shit that bothers you, chances are you don't have much going on in your life to give a legitimate fuck about.)
Subtlety #3: Whether you realize it or not, you are always choosing what to give a fuck about.
Maturity is what happens when one learns to only give a fuck about what's truly fuckworthy.
Happiness is a problem
(Problems never stop; they merely get exchanged and/or upgraded.),根本不存在终极的快乐(ultimate happiness)。
To be happy we need something to solve. Happiness is therefore a form of action; it's an activity, not something that is passively bestowed upon you.
Highs are shallow and unproductive ways to go about one's life. Highs also generate addiction.
We are always working hard to change our life situation, but we actually never feel very different.
hedonic treadmill
可见,情绪始终是不稳定的(emotions never last),我们要学会控制情绪(keep it in line),把不良情绪作为采取行动的信号(a call to action),万万不可被情绪牵着鼻子走(overidentify with their emotions)。
Choose your struggle
What pain do you want in your life? What are you willing to struggle for?
作者一针见血地指出,决定你成功与否的不在于 “What do you want to enjoy?”,而是在于 "What pain do you want to sustain?"
What pain do you want in your life?
the self-awareness onion
第一层 —— a simple understanding of one's emotions 现在的情绪是什么?
第二层 —— an ability to ask why we feel certain emotions 为什么会有这种情绪?
第三层 —— our personal values: Why do I consider this to be success/failure?
(achieved internally; reality-based; socially constructive; immediate and controllable)
(reliant on external events; superstitious; socially destructive; not immediate or controllable)
比如 honesty, innovation, humility 是好的价值观;being liked by everyone, feeling good all the time是不好的。
Prioritizing better values, choosing better things to give a fuck about. Because when you give better fucks, you get better problems. And when you get better problems, you get a better life.
