Excuse me?
"Swag" is the new generation's alternative word for "cool".
The new generation originally used swag to describe anyone thought to carry themselves in a way considered by some to be sexy / cool.
Note: considered to be retarded by many others.
Now it is used to describe anything thought to be cool, initiating the irk of previous generations and members of the new generation that disagree with new words.
That guy's got swag.
I have 10 times more swag than you do.
I just fell down, lol. Swag.
Crush, kill, destroy, swag.
A similar upset arose with "Groovy" v "cool". Groovy disappeared from the majority of vocabularies within 10 years, foreshadowing the fate of swag.
Among hip hop historians, Jay-Z is credited as being the inventor of swag.
Jay-Z began to use swag on a few of his songs, but the term really became popular in 2007, when Jay-Z and T. I used it in their hit single, “Swagga Like Us.”
Swag:
No one on the corner has swagga like us.
Swag like us, swagga swagga like us.
However, remember that “swagga” is slang for “swag”.
Swag was the All Things Considered “Hip Hop Word of the Year” in 2011.
