同学们好，今天我们继续为大家辨析初中英语常考易混词系列，这次我们要分析的是but, except, besides, except for, except that.这些词与词组都有“除了”的意思，同学们在学习及考试中务必要分清异同，避免掉入出题者的陷阱中。首先，我们来看下but这个词：

（1） but(=except) 除……之外，常用于no, all, anyone, anything, someone, something, no one, nobody, nothing, who, where等词之后。but后常接名词，代词或不定式。

They are all wrong but/except Tom.

除了汤姆外，他们全错了。

I have no chioce but/except to stay at home.

除了待在家里，我别无选择。

I have nothing to do but stay at home.

除了待在家里，我无事可做。

注意：but 后可接不定式，但之前有实义动词do(或does, did, done)时不定式省略to.

（2） besides(=in addition to/as well as) 除了……之外，还有……;而but和except则表示“除了…..之外，没有……”

Besides Tom, five more students were late.

除了汤姆外，还有5位学生迟到了。

（3） except for 除了…..以外，说明整个基本状况后，对细节加以纠正。前后指的不是同一概念范畴。

He is a good man except for hot temper.

他是个好人，只是脾气暴躁而已。（temper和man不是同一概念范畴，temper仅指man的一个侧面。）

（4） except that …..用来表示理由和细节，修正前面所说的情况，其后接从句。

Your article is quite good except there are several spelling mistakes.= Your article is quite good except for several spelling mistakes.

你的文章很好，只是有几处拼写错误。
