withdraw (v.) 提款 deposit (v.) 存款

在 withdraw 后面加上 –al 名词字根，则是指「提款」、「提醒领出来的款项」唷！军队中会用到的「撤军」可以说 troop withdrawal，而 withdraw from 是「从…提取」。deposit 作为名词有「保证金、押金」的意思。存款账户叫做 deposit account。

  • A: Is there a transaction fee every time I withdraw?
    B: There is a 5-dollar service charge for withdrawing money.

    A: 每次提领会收取手续费吗？
    B: 我们酌收 5 元的提款手续费。

ATM (Automated Teller Machine) (n.) 自动提款机

automated 是「自动的」，teller 是指「出纳员、计票员」，machine 是「机器」的意思。automated 写成 automatic 也可以喔！

  • A: That will be 160 dollars, Sir.
    B: Do you take credit cards?
    A: We are sorry for your inconvenience but the credit card reader is out of order.
    B: Is there an ATM nearby?

    A: Yes, there is an ATM on the east side of the lobby.

head office (n.) 总行— branch (n.) 分行— headquarters (n.) 总部

headquarters 虽然字尾有s ，但它其实是一个单数名词。若去除 s 则变成动词 headquarter，意指「设立总部」。general headquarters 是「大本营、统帅部、总司令部」。

transfer (v.) 转帐

trans- 是表示「超越、穿透」的字首，-fer 则是「携带、生育、承受」的意思。许多单字都有用到trans- 这个字首，例如 transform (v.) 使改变；使改观、translate (v.) 翻译；解释、 transport (v.) 运输。

  • I would like to transfer 1 million dollars to my checking account.
    我想存一百万元到我的活期存款户头。

current/demand deposit (n.) 活存

  • A: Hi, I would like to transfer 10,000 dollars from checking account to fixed deposit.

预算相关

budget (n.) 预算

budget 除了当名词之外，当动词有「节省开支；审慎花钱」的意思。作为形容词是指「平价的：合算的」。「在预算内」可以说 on/within budget。

  • If the government increases the spending or lowers the tax rate in order to stimulate its economic growth, budget deficit may occur.
    若政府为了刺激经济成长而增加支出或降低税率，预算可能会不足。

on a layaway / installment plan 分期付款

layaway 是指「保留代付商品」，installment 是「一期、分批」。分期付款也可以用payment installment 或是 installment payment。需要使用分期付款的商品通常价格很高，可以说 beyond one’s means，表示「某人的财力无法负担」。分期付款需先支付一笔头期款以保留商品，「头期款」的说法是 down payment。

  • A: I bought a new motorcycle on a layaway plan/an installment plan.
    B: How much did you pay for the down payment?
    A: I put 1,000 dollars down first then.

  • A: 我用分期付款买了一台新的机车。
    B: 那你头期款付了多少？
    A: 我先付了一千元。

bad debt (n.) 呆帐、坏帐

应收帐款中无法收回的部分称为「呆帐」。dead account、bad account 也是呆帐的其他说法。

be in the red (n.) 赤字、亏损

通常成绩单不及格都会被用红色标记，而记帐的时候，也会将亏损的部分用红色注记，所以赤字就衍伸为「亏损、未达标准」的意思。

in debt (n.) 负债中
