有法媒活用《Don’t cry for me Argentina》的题目,改为《Don’t cry 4-3 Argentina》,真可谓成王败寇啊。

World Cup Fans’ Battlefield

World Cup fans help the high street score
England’s World Cup hopes may soar or sink after the match against Panama, but one winner is already clear. British retailers are enjoying a football-fuelled bonanza.
Supermarkets are reporting booming sales in everything from jumbo TV screens to barbecue sets.In a country cruelly divided by matters unrelated to football, the England team are uniting fans around their need to consume copious amounts of beer and crisps while watching huge sporting events.
John Lewis has reported a 94% increase in sales of drinks refrigerators. Tesco expects to sell 140m bottles and cans of beer during the month-long World Cup. That will wash down 60m bags of crisps and similar snacks.
More than 21m viewers watched England’s 2-1 victory over Tunisia in their first game of the tournament.“Sales of jumbo screen TVs [65in and above] are up over 400% against last year,”said Argos. The catalogue chain is also expecting sales of barbecues to be up more than 250% by today’s kick-off,compared with last week’s sales. Waitrose also saw a surge in demand for“summery food and drink”.

Ten spots to watch the World Cup in and around Paris
At the request of the Paris police, the city will not have any fan zones during the World Cup. But fortunately for die-hard football fans, the nearby suburb of Noisy-Le-Grand will. A half-hour train ride to the east of the French capital,Noisy-Le-Grand has built a fan zone in front of the local town hall with a capacity of 3,000 people. Thirty-three of the 62 World Cup matches will be projected onto a massive 20-square-metre screen there. The town will also host a number of family-friendly activities, including a football tournament and a shoot-out competition.
The 12th arrondissement is the only district in Paris that will host an official screening of the French national team’s debut match against Australia on Saturday. Which may explain why the event at the so-called Cam Zone is already fully booked. But it may screen future matches, depending on whether Les Bleus advance, according to event organiser Christophe Disic.
In the meantime, there are several football-related activities the public can still enjoy on June 16th,including a tournament for children between the ages of 6 and 13. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo is also expected to make an appearance there.
French fans took to the streets of Paris to celebrate their team’s thrilling World Cup win against Argentina, which booked Les Bleus‘ place in the quarter-finals in Russia. After the game, raucous fans could be seen flooding onto the Paris streets, setting off flares and blowing whistles. Teenager Kylian Mbappe scored a second-half double as his team came from behind to run out 4-3 winners.France are looking to add to their World Cup victory on home soil in 1998.

Iceland’s post offices close early on Friday
due to Iceland -Nigeria match
Most of Iceland will probably be glued to their screens at 3 pm on Friday when Iceland‘s plays its second match in the World Cup,this time against Nigeria. The Iceland Post Office has announced that instead of closing at 6 pm as usual on Friday, they will close at 2.30 pm this Friday to give their staff a chance to watch the match.
Without a doubt, the post office is only the first of many companies to announce that they’re closing early on Friday due to the match.

We’re out! For a German living4 in London,
this couldn’t be worse
Watching the World Cup as a German in London is to experience an emotional rollercoaster involving fear, hope and schadenfreude. I’m still slightly wary of leaving the house in my Germany shirt, and was seriously considering flying back if we met England in the later rounds. The prospect of staying in London to watch the English lose to us on penalties yet again seemed a bit too intimidating.
Those reflections now seem to belong to a slightly different era.
As the former coach Jürgen Klinsmann once famously said:“When Germans have achieved something big, they try to achieve again with less effort.” That didn’t go so well. After the defeats against Mexico and South Korea,I had to shame-walk the streets of London in my Germany shirt after finally being brave enough to sport it in public for the first time after four years in the UK. Perhaps I jinxed it.
