琼·贝兹生于1941年，20岁时与鲍勃·迪伦相遇。当时鲍勃·迪伦身边有个深爱的女友，因为琼的介入而离开，这时琼才与鲍勃开始正式交往。
那时，鲍勃管我叫我「民谣女王」，我不喜欢，于是他叫我「民谣的第一夫人」。我听了哈哈大笑。___ Joan Baez
然而，不过不久之后，鲍勃名气越来越大，音乐风格也开始转变，加上鲍勃浪子的性格，这段恋情宣告结束。
1980年，40多岁琼认识了不满30岁的乔布斯，谈了一段姐弟恋。据说非常喜欢小孩的乔布斯曾向琼求婚，而琼拒绝了。这段恋情也无疾而终。
在琼离婚的两年后，10年未见的迪伦打来了电话。那夜之后，琼写了她最著名的歌曲《Diamond and Rust钻石和锈》。
琼写完这首歌，答应和迪伦一同巡演，他在后台问她，这首歌是不是为他而写，
她只说了一句：“不然你以为是写给谁？”
究竟甚么是钻石，甚么又是锈？
有人说，钻石是眼泪，泪干后留下来的是绣。
也有人说，钻石是爱情中美好的部份，而绣则是感伤的部份。
又或许，是时间，能把煤矿变成钻石，也能让闪亮的钢铁蒙上一层锈。
