据美国长岛人冰球队官方网站发出的公告，美国东部时间2018年10月21日，著名的华人企业家、慈善家、长岛人冰球队共有人王嘉廉先生于纽约去世，享年74岁。

王嘉廉先生对中国冰球的贡献是巨大的、值得令所有中国冰球人永远铭记的。王嘉廉先生与中国冰球协会、美国长岛人冰球俱乐部合作，于2005年创立的"王嘉廉中国冰球希望工程"已经在全国四个省市成立了28所王嘉廉冰球希望学校。几年来的工作和实践证明，以希望学校作为培养冰球后备人才的切入点是正确和卓有成效的。

王嘉廉先生对北京冰球的发展同样作出了贡献。在王嘉廉先生的大力支持下，彼时刚刚成立2个月的北京市男子冰球队得以在2016年前往美国纽约，在长岛人俱乐部的教练组带领下进行训练和比赛，并在整个2016-2017赛季、2017-2018、2018-2019赛季在美国参加当地青年联赛。这种“以赛代练”的模式在当时的中国冰球界尚是首次尝试。经过两年的努力，球队的精神面貌、体能、技术、战术等都得到了大幅提高，并在2018年全国冰球锦标赛中取得了季军的好成绩。正是王嘉廉先生当年的支持，北京市男子冰球队才能够取得今天的成绩。

斯人已逝。吾等冰球界后辈更应尽己所能，将王嘉廉先生对中国冰球所作的贡献发扬光大，不负其殷切期盼。
