10月19日，启明星双语学校有幸迎来了萨尔瓦·杜特先生，他是为南苏丹谋求饮用水和生活净水的非营利组织——南苏丹净水组织（Water for South Sudan） 的创始人，也是由真实事件改编的获奖小说——A Long Walk to Water (《漫漫求水路》，书名为编者译，该书暂无中文版) 一书中的主人公。在此次访谈中，萨尔瓦·杜特与学生们分享了他的经历和信念。
On October 19th, Daystar Academy was honored to host Salva Dut, founder of the nonprofit organization ‘Water For South Sudan’ and focus of the award-winning novel A Long Walk to Water for a brief visit to talk with our students about his experiences and beliefs.

中学部的大部分学生在六年级的时候都读过A Long Walk to Water这本书。在这次交流活动中，学生们基于对这本书的读后感准备了一系列采访问题，向萨尔瓦·杜特提问；同时，每个年级还有两名学生代表向萨尔瓦·杜特介绍他们由这本书延伸出来的阅读和思考。学生们的问题融合了受 A Long Walk to Water一书启发而延伸出的有关水资源的学习内容，同时也涵盖了对于当下热点事件以及萨尔瓦·杜特在南苏丹为水源所做的工作的反思。
The majority of our middle school students read A Long Walk to Water in 6th grade, so each class created interview questions to ask Salva in a town hall discussion format, and each class had two representatives give an overview of their learning. Their questions connected the material they are currently learning to the themes learned from A Long Walk to Water, along with current issues and Salva’s water conservation efforts in South Sudan.

A LONG WALK TO WATER
A Long Walk to Water begins as two stories, told in alternating sections, about a girl in Sudan in 2008 and a boy in Sudan in 1985. The girl, Nya, is fetching water from a pond that is two hours’ walk from her home: she makes two trips to the pond every day. The boy, Salva (who we hosted in our town hall discussion), becomes one of the "lost boys" of Sudan, refugees who cover the African continent on foot as they search for their families and for a safe place to stay. Enduring every hardship from loneliness to attack by armed rebels to contact with killer lions and crocodiles, Salva is a survivor, and his story goes on to intersect with Nya’s in an astonishing and moving way.
A poem cycle that reads as a novel, Out of the Dust tells the story of Billie Jo, a girl who struggles to help her family survive the dustbowl years of the Depression. Fighting against the elements on her Oklahoma farm, Billie Jo takes on even more responsibilities when her mother dies in a tragic accident. A testament to the American spirit, this novel is an instant classic.
OUT OF THE DUST
A Long Walk to Water一书将两条故事线同时推进、交错讲述。故事线之一讲述了一个叫妮雅的苏丹女孩，每次都要步行两个小时去池塘打水，每天要重复两次这样的行程；另一条故事线讲述了一个叫萨尔瓦的苏丹男孩（即我校这次交流活动的主讲人）的经历，他是苏丹难民所谓“失落的男孩”中的一员，他靠双脚走遍非洲大陆寻找他的家人，希望求得一片安全的栖息地。在这个过程中他忍受着孤独、武装叛军的突袭、 狮子和鳄鱼的骚扰。 萨尔瓦最终幸存了下来，他的故事和妮雅的故事以一种令人动容的方式交汇在了一起。
