说起问年龄的英语，我们的第一反应一定是“How old are you?”，因为从小到大都是这么学的。不论是外国人还是中国人，对年龄这个话题都是很敏感忌讳的。这句话本身没有任何错误，但是西方人比较重视自己的隐私，如果张口就问“How old are you?”真的太直接了，他们会觉得很不礼貌！

不建议大家直接用“How old are you?”的另一个原因是，如果用嘲讽调侃的语气说“How old are you?”，表达的意思其实是“你都多大了还这么不成熟/幼稚”。那么，如果对别人的年龄感兴趣，用什么英语询问会更好呢？普特君给大家几个小建议哦。

1.Would you mind telling me your age?

你介意告诉我你的年龄吗？

2.Which year were you born?

你是哪一年出生的？

回答的时候可以说“I was born in 具体年份”，也可以用以下几种方式表达年龄。

① 表示整岁，直接用基数词或year, age，比如“他20岁”就可以表示为：

He is twenty.

He is twenty years old.

He is a twenty-year-old man.

② 表示“在某人几十多岁”，用“in one's ＋ 基数词复数形式”，例如：

He is in his seventies.

他七十多岁。（从70岁到79岁之间）

She is in her fifties.

她五十多岁。（从50岁到59岁之间）

还可以借助early，middle，late来表达得更明确一些，例如：

The girl is in her early twenties.

那女孩今年二十二、三岁。

He is in his middle teens.

他今年十四、五岁。

She is in her late twenties.

她今年二十八、九岁。

③ 表示“快满多少岁”用进行时或将来时，例如“他快满18岁了”可说成：

He is getting on for eighteen.

He is going on eighteen years old.

He will be eighteen years old.

④ 表示“不满多少岁”，用副词barely/nearly/almost/quite/yet等，例如“她不满17岁”有以下几种说法：

She is barely/nearly/almost/quite/yet seventeen.

⑤ 表示“差多久满多少岁”用介词off，例如：

He is five months off nineteen.

他差5个月就满19岁了。

She is three years off fifty.

她再过3年就50岁了。

6. 表示“超过多少岁”用介词past，例如：

He is past fifty.

他已年过50。

The baby is two months past two years old.

那孩子两岁零两个月。

再跟大家讲一些其他需要注意的英语表达哦。

1.Are you there?

你在那儿吗？

你在听吗？ （√）

如果打电话或者聊天的时候，对方沉默了，就可以说“Are you there?”。在这里的意思不是问“你在那儿吗？”而是“你在听吗？”。《电锯惊魂》里面有这样的两句话：

Are you there, Detective? If so, you are probably the last man standing.

你在听吗，侦探？在的话，你就是最后的赢家了。

2.What's your name?

说了问年龄，那再来说说问名字。我们一直学的是“What's your name?” 这句话肯定是没有任何错误的，但有时上来直接这样问会显得不礼貌，普特君建议大家换成下面两个更显友好的表达：

May I have your name please? /Could you please tell me your name?

3.I think

“我认为”你是不是还是只会说“I think”？其实英语里有很多种方式表达“我认为”，这些表达在各种英语考试的作文里非常实用，一起学习一下吧。

① I believe that

I believe that every person deserves respect.

我相信每个人都值得尊重。

② In my opinion

这种说法非常正式，适合讨论严肃重要的问题时使用。

In my opinion the answer is an unequivocal “yes”.

在我看来，答案毫不含糊，是肯定的。

③ From my point of view （强调只是表达个人观点）

From my point of view, creativity is my strongest point.

我认为我最大的优点是富有创造力.

④ It seems to me that （不确定自己的想法是否正确）

It seems to me that Mary was the most splendid woman I ever knew.

在我看来玛丽似乎是我认识的最了不起的女人。

4.I know

在外国人看来，“I know”有种居高临下说自己早就知道了的感觉。如果想用英语说“我知道了”，大家可以这么说：

Ok, I got it.

好的我知道了。

I understand.

我懂了。
