此币铸于光绪三十一年(1905)初，为纪念慈禧七十寿辰而铸。张炯伯在《广东省造银币》一文中写道：“惟本品因未纪年，殊难遽断，然观其图案，谐作福寿，环绕双龙，幕无英文，意含颂祝，大异常制。由此以推，成w为纪念币之一种，专铸以祝慈禧太后七旬万寿者也。”

This coin was coined at the beginning of the 31st year of Guangxu (1905) to commemorate the 70th birthday of Cixi. 广东“寿”字双龙一两银币，不仅以其传世稀少而受到人们的珍视，而且，还由于它的制作异常精美而倍受人们的宠爱。在我国近代银币中，它是久享盛名的一种。此币正面以珠圈为界，可分为内外两个部分：珠圈以外，上端为“广东省造”四字，下方为“库平重一两”五字，左右两侧各铸一蝙蝠图案；珠圈以内，铸有满、汉文“光绪元宝”四字。背面也以珠圈为界：珠圈外面，铸有双龙图案；珠圈里面，铸有一圆形“寿”字。

The back side is bounded by the bead circle: outside the bead circle, there is a double dragon pattern; inside the bead circle, there is a circular word "Shou".

这种银币有一个很显著的特色，那就是在币面两侧各有一蝙蝠图案。当时把它的图像铸在银币之上，寓有吉祥的含义。因为，蝙蝠的“蝠”字与幸福的“福”字读音相同，而把蝙蝠图案铸在币面上，系取“蝠”、“福”两字谐音。并且，如将它与背面的“寿”字相对应，便构成“福寿双全”之意。

Because the word "bat" and the word "happiness" pronunciation is the same, and the bat pattern is cast on the currency, the word "bat" and "happiness" homonym.
