Students of Empty Playground were exploring the 3D space as if it were an empty canvas. Through playfully exploring the capabilities of Cinema 4D and theorizing the implications of computer generated image production . The empty playground and canvas means to set your own rules and curiously discover the possibility and boundries of a digital workflow.

The exhibition will feature different works of every student that can be read as their playfull learning and devolping.

无人游乐场意味着充满无限可能的虚拟空间,学生们探索三维空间就像在探索一块空白的画布。通过学习Cinema4D,发现自己在虚拟世界的无限创作潜能,同时学习和辩证性思考电影理论和数字影像生产的含义,实践和理论将在他们个人作品中的虚拟空间碰撞出各种新奇的影像。无人游乐场和空白画布意味着学生自己设置自己的规则,并主动地发现数字工作方式的可能性和边界。 此次展览将展出每位学生的不同作品,这些作品是他们的学习和发展的一部分。

本次展览展出了学生在课程期间的练习作品与最终创作。具有杭州代表性的音景将会在本次展览上展出,通过在杭州各个地方实地录音捕获的声音来探索城市之声。本次展览的某些部分会涉及自然界的声音和一些特定地点的具体表现,如同拍摄一样描绘场景;而另外一些部分则表现得较为抽象,对采集到的音频进行数字处理,创作出对杭州这个城市较为梦幻的表达。

This exhibition present the work produced during the course. It will provide a soundscape representation of Hangzhou, exploring the voice of the city through field recordings captured at various locations. Some parts of our exhibition will deal with natural sounds and realistic representations of places, like landscape photographs. Other parts will be more abstract representations, made from digitally processed audio to produce dreamlike expressions of the city.

海之记忆 Sea of Memories

1、海报 Poster

在整个PLAY SHOP工作坊期间,我们通过光的记忆(蓝晒),大地的记忆(草木染色),空气的记忆(蓝染)这三个部分进行制作了与“记忆痕迹”相关的染色作品。在制作期间,始终让大家思考人类记忆的原点是否来源于“大海”这一问题,本次展览的作品通过对“记忆”的线性描述让大家来理解生命及生命的诞生,因此将主题设定为“记忆之海”。“我们的身体中,或许仍然保留着一些当人类还是鱼类时的记忆。”。

大家创造了属于自己记忆的独特的“海洋神话生物”。并将那些神话中的生物进行拟人化设定,创作了他们的外在服装,通过把布料裁剪,缝制及染色,使自己成为所创作的神话中的生物。并且,通过把蓝染的长卷设置在空间顶面及墙面这种做法,创作作为共同体的“记忆之海”的独特空间。

During this workshop, we performed PLAYSHOP related to "traces of memory" by the three sections such as memory of light (Ciano type), memory of ground (plant dye), memory of air (indigo dye). And this exhibition was set as the “Sea of Memories”as a final show of our lectures on “trace of memory”by based on the question of whether the origin of human memory is in the “Sea”. "In our bodies, there may still be memories of fish.”

Each students create a unique "Sea mythological creature" by anthropomorphizing those mythical creatures. Students dyeing cloths and take a cloth on thembody, and become a own mythical creature. In addition, we install a large indigo fabrics dyed by group work in the space, and try to create the "Sea of Memories" as a community in the space.

“偶感摆戏”的课程的重点是在特定游戏状态下,将同学们的丰富想象力、诗意表达力、多彩表现力、群体合作力通过摆拍激发出来,在展览中得以呈现。展览将以分组的形式展示最终的摆拍作品,每组以一句中国古谚语作为主题展开创作,除最终摆拍作品外,创作过程也是展览的重要组成部分,涉及:服装、道具、化妆、布景、角色、草图、脚本等。

The focus of the course of "Staged Photography of Present Legend" is to stimulate students' rich imagination, poetic expression, colorful expression and group cooperation through the posing in a specific state of play, which can be presented in the exhibition. The exhibition will display the final posing works in groups. Each group will take an old Chinese proverb as the theme for creation. In addition to the final posing works, the creation process is also an important part of the exhibition, involving: costumes, props, makeup, scenery, characters, sketches, scripts, etc.

游戏都市 Playful Urban Complexity

《游戏都市》用游戏和玩乐的方式预测未来世界的可能性。学生通过集体创作的形式,从不同的角度展开对未来城市的想象,并通过批判、游戏、建造等一系列环节,逐渐完善对城市的设计和构想。课程前期,我们通过提问的方式,引导学生思考内心的价值。学生在讨论中不断反思,并在冲突中逐渐达成共识。通过集体创作的方式,学生合作构建了81年后的一座叫“涅槃”的城市。涅槃地处北极冰川,管理者“生命树”是一棵经过外星基金改造的巨型智慧生命体。生命树象征着人类与自然的和平共处。我们用游戏和交互叙事的方式展现城市中人、物、景错综复杂的交互关系,并尝试用设计提出可能的解决方案。

Playful Urban Complexity builds on the affordances of play and games to predict a possible future for our urban environment. Every project tasked students with imagining the urban environment from a different perspective, and asks them to critique, play with, and build the systems that make the urban experience more or less livable. Our course started with several days of visioning exercises as we set down ground rules for how we wanted our city to be built. These guidelines helped us complete and build out our speculative city 81 years in the future. 涅槃 is a city inside an iceberg, with the dominant feature being the Lifetree, a gigantic tree granted sentience by alien DNA. As a city intimately connected to the environment, the Lifetree emphasizes that humans have to live in harmony with nature. Our projects reflect some of those challenges of our new city and we even provides basic solutions for several of them.

本课程研究使用数据作为创作艺术品的基础。同学们使用各种方法将数据转换或翻译成新的美学形式,找到全新的创作模式,表达新的意义,探索生成过程等等。

本课程的前几个练习要求同学们通过观察或访谈自行收集数据,然后手工绘制这些信息。在此期间,我们专注于收集数据的方法,以及主题和审美表征之间的关系。

本课程的第二部分侧重于可视化数据的计算方法。我们向同学们提供了一个样本数据集,用于处理和教授基本的HTML,CSS和JavaScript。在此期间对编程的关注不仅仅是将编程作为一种工具,更多的是鼓励学生将数据可视化视为构建一组规则或逻辑,以便产生不同的形式。

对于最终项目,学生被分为8个不同的小组。每个小组挑选(或在某些情况下生成)他们感兴趣的数据集,并围绕其可视化的形式和方法开发了一个独特的概念。

This course investigates the use of data as a basis for creating artwork. The students use various methodologies in transforming or translating the data into new aesthetic forms in order to find patterns, express new meanings, explore generative processes, and much more.

The first couple of exercises in this course asked students to collect data by themselves, through observation or interviews, and then hand sketch this information. During this time, we focused on methods of collecting data, as well as the relationship between subject matter and aesthetic representation.

The second part of this course focused on computational methods of visualizing data. Students were provided a sample dataset to work with and taught basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The focus on coding during this time was not just about coding as a tool, but more about encouraging students to think about data visualization as building a set of rules or logic that can be played with in order to produce different forms.

For the final project, students were placed into 8 different groups. Each group picked (or in some cases produced) a dataset they were interested in and developed a unique concept around the form and methodology of their visualization.

During a month, students have worked on the creation of alternative video game controllers : video games that can be played with original tangible interfaces. Video game is a medium that can be used to create immersive and impactful experiences for the players. Those experiences can be amplified by building unusual, physical and original interfaces which can redefine the way we usually play video games. Therefore, this exhibit takes the form of an arcade room in which you can play every playful machine made by the students and learn about their design thinking.

在一个月的时间里,学生们致力于创造出一种视频游戏控制器: 用原有的设备界面创造出可玩的视频游戏。通过视频游戏这个媒介,不仅可以为玩家创造身临其境的有效经验,而且这些经验在通过构建不同寻常的物理与原始界面过程中进行放大,并重新定义我们通常玩视频游戏的方式。本次展览采用了游戏厅的形式,在这里你可以玩学生们制作的每一个有趣的游戏,了解他们的设计思维。

There are three stages of the workshop. In the first stage, students learn about the hardware and software functions involved. Through the analysis of game cases, learn the framework and possibility of game principles. In the second stage, students brainstorm themes in groups. The video record simulation game process, carries on the game story, roles, and the thoughts of interaction. In the third stage, software is used to build the game content and hardware to set up the control of the game, so as to obtain effective game experience. Playful Machines exhibition will present this experiential game thinking.

机械玩吧工作坊课程有三个阶段进行。第一阶段,学生学习了解所涉及的硬件和软件功能。通过对游戏案例的分析,学习游戏原理的构架和可能性。第二个阶段,学生分组进行主题头脑风暴。采用视频记录模拟游戏发生过程,进行游戏故事、角色、和交互的思考。第三阶段,运用软件构建游戏内容,搭建硬件进行游戏的控制设定,获得有效的游戏体验。机械玩吧的展览将呈现这种具有体验式的游戏思考。

Fast growing cities sometimes forget the need for entertainment and space for dream in our everyday life. Dreamscapes explore the notion of dreamlike landscapes; not as pure fictions and fantasies, but as superposition of fragments taken from our everyday lives and experiences. This process resulting in new landscapes and situations that are both extremely familiar while oddly disorienting. These Dreamscapes will result in a confrontation between existing and known part of the city colliding randomnly with new leisure-oriented programs.

In this workshop students question the city as a playground. After choosing a specific location around the CAA Campus, each group of students were asked to think about a playful vision for the transformation of that space. Through experimentings with model making, they develop new architectural and urban experiences based on entertainment programs such as theme parks, music festival, real-life board game... Proposing a vision of the cities of tomorrow .

快速发展的城市有时会让人们忘记在日常生活中对娱乐和梦想空间的需求。Dreamscapes探索梦幻般的景观概念;它不仅只是纯粹的虚构和幻想,而是作为从我们的日常生活和经历中获取的碎片的叠加和延伸。这样的设计过程会让设计出的景观和情况既熟悉又陌生,同时产生好奇。这些梦境将导致城市现有和已知部分之间的对抗随机地与新的休闲项目相撞。

在这个工作坊中,学生们将这个城市视为一个游乐场。在中国美院创新设计学院周围选择一个特定的位置后,每组学生都被要求思考一个有趣的主题和切入点,去改造和再设计这个空间。 通过模型制作的实验,他们开发了基于主题公园,音乐节,现实生活的棋盘游戏等娱乐节目的新建筑和城市体验......提出了对未来城市的愿景。

Starting from brain storming, through slides presentation to individual group reviews, the students will take advatages of all the skills to express their idea. Physical model with scale is the main task and challenge of the course. Hand drawings, collages and video makings are working with the physical model to explain their project.

课程以头脑风暴作为切入点,鼓励学生开脑洞。从面向全班的作品汇报到小组点评,鼓励学生利用一切他们缩回的技能去表达他们的设计想法和设计观点。带比例的模型制作是课程的重点,也是难点。手绘,电脑制图及视频制作将与模型一起共同诠释他们的项目。

In building P61, the exhibiton will use the 2 floors as exhibition space : 3 groups on the ground floor, 2 groups on the upper floor (see images bellow). The floors will be seperated into smaller spaces to create immersive rooms for each single project. The large scale of the models, and drawing on the wall will create a total experience for visitors moving from one Dreamscapes to the next.

The entrance will be use as an introduction to the workshop and map of the exhibition. The staircase will be used for a colorful installation guiding the visitor to the second floor

图)。地板将分隔成不同的空间,为每个单独的项目创造沉浸式的空间。大规模的模

型和墙上绘图将为从一个Dreamscape到另一个Dreamscape的游客创造一个完整

入口将用作研讨会和展览地图的介绍。楼梯将利用跟二层展览相关的引导性设计,

引导游客到二楼。
