高原巨松鼠，是大型松鼠，头体长25-45厘米，尾长25-50厘米，重量1.5-3公斤。分布于斯里兰卡和印度南部的西高止山脉。栖息于热带、亚热带的森林中，具有较高的领地意识，擅长跳跃。属杂食性，以水果、坚果、昆虫、鸟卵和树皮为食。

The grizzled giant squirrel (Ratufa macroura) is a large tree squirrel in the genus Ratufa found in the highlands of the Central and Uva provinces of Sri Lanka, and in patches of riparian forest along the Kaveri River and in the hill forests in the Tamil Nadu and Kerala states of southern India. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the species as near threatened due to habitat loss and hunting.It is the national animal of Sri Lanka.
