2020-2021 美国私立高中申请季已经展开。今年由于疫情，美高学校对于往年传统的申请要求做了很多改变，以便为申请生提供更方便， 灵活的申请经验。了解这些改变会帮助申请学生与家长及时做相应的调整。
下面我们具体讲述一下疫情年美高申请与往年在申请要求上的四大不同： 面试，标化考试，推荐信，申请文书。
1. 面试
虽然大多数美高秋季开学后已经恢复校园教室面对面授课，由于防疫要求，今年绝大多数学校将传统的校园面试改为线上进行。
下面学校仍然提供校园面试的选择，但请学生与家长浏览学校的申请网站获得最新的更新：

这里我们建议学生与家长在参加线上面试前在学校网站收看 virtual tour （虚拟旅游）， 以便对校园有一个感性认识。
2. 标化考试
对于往年美高申请9年级或10年级入学必需的 SSAT 考试，今年有超过半数的美高不需要或可选（Optional），包括大部分的顶尖美高， 下面是这些学校的部分名单：

2020-2021 申请季 SSAT 考试提供了两个新选择：SSAT at Home，Computer-based
- 美国与加拿大： 学生可以参加在家考试（SSAT at Home），每周均可以参加； 或去指定考试中心参加计算机考试（Computer-based）
- 中国与其他地区： 纸上考试（Paper-based）， 或去指定考试中心参加计算机考试（Computer-based）
另外， 对于仍要求上交SSAT 的学校， 大多数接受去年 SSAT 考试的成绩。
对于国际生，本申请季大多数学校仍然要求 TOEFL （托福）分数， 但多数学校也接受 Duolingo 线上考试成绩。
3. 推荐信
往年申请美高的推荐信需要三封：
- 现数学老师的推荐信
- 现英语老师的推荐信
- 现学校辅导员的推荐信
今年由于很多申请生秋季学期上网课，与现在老师不熟悉，大多数美高准许学生提供上学年老师的推荐信。
有的学校则鼓励学生提供另一封可选的推荐信 （optional recommendation），可以由熟悉自己的任何科目的老师提供，比如迪尔菲尔德学院 （Deerfield Academy） 的推荐信要求：
This year we will provide an optional recommendation form that you may send to a teacher of your choosing. We realize that students learning online may feel that their teachers have not gotten to know them as well as previous teachers. Please use the opportunity to submit a recommendation from a teacher, past or present, who you feel can speak to your best qualities as a learner and classroom participant.
4. 申请文书
美高申请有SAO 与 Gateway 两套系统，其中SAO 类似美本申请的 Commom App, 提供统一的文书题目， 与 Commom App 不同，SAO 今年没有增加专门与疫情有关的文书， 但其统一文书与往年仍有变化。下面是SAO 与往年不同的文书题目：
短文书题目 1：
Aside from books or articles assigned for school, what book(s), article(s), podcast(s), and or documentary(s) have you most enjoyed in the past year and why?
长文书题目选择：
- Explain a time when you made a decision you regretted. Explain why you made that decision. How would you approach the same situation differently if you could now?
- What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? From whom did you receive the advice and how did you apply it?
- Describe a moment when you felt left out or that you did not fit in well with others. What did you learn about yourself and others? How did you overcome that situation?
- What is your favorite quote from a movie, book or a line from a song or poem? Please name the movie, poem or song, and tell us what it means for you?
今年美高申请的文书比往年更加重要，很多申请生希望在文书里分享自己在疫情期间遇到的困难与挑战，文书是描述个人特殊经历， 展示个性的最佳工具。
另外， 今年有的美高增加了上交 ”Graded Essay“ 的要求，与申请文书不同，这篇是学生在学校里英语课堂上完成的，老师评判过的作文， 主要考察学生的英文写作水平。
