A postdoctoral or a visiting scholar fellow position is open in the laboratory of Dr. Chen Yao in the Department of Immunology and the Kidney Cancer Program at the UT Southwestern Medical Center.

The long-term goal of Yao laboratory is to identify molecular and cellular targets that can be harnessed to enhance the efficacy of vaccines and immunotherapies against infectious diseases and cancer.

The Yao lab utilizes systems immunology approaches to identify key regulators of T-cell differentiation and function.

Ongoing projects in the laboratory include:

1) Identify novel molecular regulators of long-term antitumor T cell immunity;

2) Identify biomarkers predicting the clinical outcome of cancer immunotherapy;

3) Dissect the mechanisms involved in the T cell response to chronic viral infections.

Dr. Yao received her PhD degree from the University of Minnesota under the supervision of Daniel Kaplan. She completed her postdoctoral training in the laboratory led by John O’Shea at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Yao is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Immunology and the Kidney Cancer Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Yao is an awardee of the NIAID New Innovators Awards (DP2) and the CPRIT First-Time, Tenure-Track Faculty Scholar Award.

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in immunology, microbiology, cancer biology or relevant fields.
  • Comfortable working with mice and/or patient samples
  • Experience with mouse cancer model is preferred
  • Experience with bioinformatics and next-generation sequencing is preferred but not required
