shanghai ≠ 上海

英文中大写的“Shanghai”才是上海，而小写的“shanghai”是一个动词。牛津词典中，“shanghai”的解释是诓骗或者胁迫某些人去做一些他们不愿做的事情。经常看英美影视剧的同学，应该都听到过这种用法。

china ≠ 中国

大写的“China”代表中国，小写的“china”则是瓷器的意思，最初是指原名昌南的景德镇。此外，bull in a china shop 字面意思是“瓷器店里的蛮牛”，但通常用来指代笨拙的人，动辄弄坏东西的人。

turkey ≠ 土耳其

火鸡是西方感恩节传统食物，同时美国总统这一天也会赦免一只幸运的火鸡。火鸡的英文是turkey，而将t大写则成了Turkey（土耳其），可见大小写还是很重要的。

japan ≠ 日本
