哈罗北京共有何各庄和安贞两个校区。两个校区最大的不同便是针对孩子成长的不同阶段的特点采取了不同的设计理念和主题思想,分别为一年级之上与幼儿园至一年级的学子提供不同年龄段所需的成长环境,体现出哈罗北京对于个性化教育的追求。

02 中西融合,碰撞发展新机遇

哈罗北京传承了英国哈罗公学的核心理念,为学生提供全方位的教育。但同时也是一所根植于北京的学校,中国文化对其身份的认同至关重要。中西方文化的融合是教育实践中不可避免的重要课题。哈罗北京助理校长John Hopkins在圆桌论坛中说道:“我们以前认为,中国践行孔子的教育理念,西方遵循苏格拉底的思辨理念,中西方教育方式是不同的。但孔子的观点不是单一的,中国的历史课本里也讲授苏格拉底的想法,所以这两种教育体系是相辅相成的。我们的学生们明确地知道这一点,他们不作评判,理解各个国家有各自的文化和体系。这对他们是自然而然的。”

为了践行中西文化交融,共同促进学子成长成材,哈罗采取了许多措施,最突出的便是在不同年龄段学子的课程设置之上,将有关中文的教育以及传统文化的教育贯穿始终。此外,哈罗还经常举办一系列有关中国传统文化的活动。例如以传统文化为主题远足活动,师生们前往中国不同的地区感受不同地域的传统民俗:或是去往山东曲阜寻中国传统文化之根,或是去往古都西安感受西北文化风情,或是深入北京体验京味传统;针对中国各大传统节日设立的节日文化活动周,师生们在做灯笼画福字中感受年味,在诵诗做月饼中体味中秋,在包粽子做香囊中了解端午;独特周六学校剪纸课程,针对不同年龄段的孩子设置不同的课程内容,通过循序渐进的学习过程领略剪纸艺术。

03 紧跟时代,阔步迈向新未来

在跟紧时代发展的道路上,哈罗北京从不松懈。

国家积极倡导可持续发展理念时,哈罗北京应声开展一系列基于可持续发展的教育项目。项目分为学校的可持续发展、家庭的可持续发展和职业的可持续发展三个阶段。在“学校的可持续发展”这一阶段中,学校反思自身在教育实践中的可持续性,通过建设蔬菜园地将厨余垃圾回收利用,开展熄灯省电等一系列活动为学生树立良好榜样。第二阶段“家庭的可持续发展”项目“好奇、创新、合作(CCC)”主题周结合,本着“全球化思考,本地化行动”的精神,要求学生把自己在学校学习到的节约措施应用到家庭生活中。第三阶段“职业的可持续发展”中,学生们与哈罗社区的企业进行联系,并要求企业考虑可持续发展问题。同时也邀请了部分英国商业大奖的获奖者来到学校,为学生阐述“为什么可持续发展不仅是道德问题,也是商业优势”。

On January 18th 2022, the was officially released by KingLead. This is the 4th year that KingLead has released China International Schools Ranking Series. It aims to discover a number of innovative international schools in China, which will promote the continuous upgrading of these international schools’ educational philosophy and the cultivation of international innovative talents.

KingLead invited9 full professors and academiciansto deliver speeches on the release of this year's ranking. These scholars are from Ivy League schools including Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, and MIT in the U.S., as well as professors from University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge in the UK.

The professors expressed their recognition of the value, professionalism and innovation of KingLead and the KingLead International Schools Rankings, and offered their congratulations to those listed schools. At the same time, they also helped well-known overseas universities and scholars to better understand Chinese international schools.

Harrow Beijing was founded in 2005. We are a vibrant community affiliated to the renowned Harrow School in London, being established as far back as 1572, and Harrow International Schools in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Haikou. Harrow Beijing offers a British-based education to students aged from 2 to 18. 01 Two atmospheres to create a new environment for growth

Harrow Beijing has two campuses, Hegezhuang and Anzhen. The biggest difference between the two campuses is that different design concepts and theme ideas are adopted for the characteristics of different age groups of children. It has provided the growth environment required for different age groups for students above the first grade and kindergarten to the first grade, reflecting Harrow Beijing's pursuit of personalized education.

Situated in a beautiful village, our Hegezhuang Campus has fully customised classrooms with cutting-edge technology and thoughtfully designed, flexible learning spaces creating an inspiring environment for students of all ages. In addition, our exquisite facilities include two libraries for Lower School and Upper School students respectively with more than 28,000 resources, providing students with a rich choice of books to create a good reading atmosphere. 02 The integration of East and West, colliding with new opportunities for development

Harrow Beijing shares the core values of Harrow School in London, while offering a well-rounded education to students. We are deeply rooted in the city of Beijing, where Chinese culture is essential to our proud identity. Integration of Chinese and Western cultures is an important part of our educational practice. Mr. John Hopkins, Assistant Head of Harrow Beijing, shared during the roundtable, “We used to think that the two cultures, Chinese and Western, are in conflict, because Confucius set the baseline of Chinese education and the Western inherited the critical thinking from Socrates. But Confucius had many diverse ideas and Chinese textbooks also include the views of Socrates, so we should consider many aspects of the two systems to be complimentary. And where there are differences that is an opportunity to learn. Our students implicitly understand this. They do not judge, they just acknowledge that different countries have different cultures and different systems. It seems as natural as breathing for them.”.

To practice the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures and jointly promote the growth of students, Harrow has adopted many methods. The most prominent thing is that the education of Chinese and traditional culture runs throughout on the top of the curriculum for students of different ages. In addition, Harrow regularly hosts a series of events related to traditional Chinese culture. For example, in the theme of traditional culture hiking activities, teachers and students go to different parts of China to experience the traditional folklore of different regions: or go to Qufu, Shandong to find the roots of traditional Chinese culture; Or go to the ancient capital of Xi'an to feel the cultural customs of the northwest; Or go deep into Beijing to experience the tradition of Beijing; Also, Harrow set up activities weeks for China's major traditional festivals, teachers and students feel the taste of the New Year in making lanterns and painting blessing characters, taste the Mid-Autumn Festival in reciting poems and making mooncakes, and learn about the Dragon Boat Festival in the sachets of rice dumplings. There is also a unique school paper-cutting course on Saturday for students of different ages to appreciate the art of paper-cutting through the step-by-step learning process.

As the Head of Harrow Beijing, Mrs Rachel Dent said, “Harrow has been educating students for 450 years, and I believe China has been educating students for thousands of years. 03 Keep up with the times and stride towards a new future

Harrow Beijing has never slackened in keeping up with the development of the times.

When the state actively advocated the concept of sustainable development, Harrow Beijing launched a series of education projects based on sustainable development. The projects will be divided into three phases – sustainability at school, sustainability at home, and sustainability at work. In the first phase, 'sustainability at school', Harrow Beijing will review its own practices around sustainability so as to set a good example for the students. The school carries out a series of activities in Phase 1 including establishing a vegetable patch using the kitchen waste as fertilization and a turn off the lights campaign. Phase 2 will be launched in the spring term in conjunction with this year's 'Collaboration, Creativity, Curiosity (CCC)' week. In the spirit of 'Think Globally, Act Locally', Harrow Beijing will ask their students to adopt some of the measures they have learned about at school to their life at home. In the phase of 'sustainability at work', students will be reaching out to some businesses in Harrow community and asking them to consider sustainability. Harrow Beijing will have some of the winners from the 2018 British Business Awards visiting the school and speaking to their students on 'How sustainability is not only an ethical concern for them but also a business advantage'.

On top of the thinking about the qualities that future talents should have, Harrow believes that leadership is an important point. Given this, Harrow attaches great importance to the development of student leadership. Harrow integrates the Youth Leadership Curriculum into the Secondary School Curriculum and is committed to providing opportunities for children to learn, develop leadership and social service to realize the school's vision of "cultivating leaders for the world of tomorrow". In a variety of student activities, Harrow also pays attention to leadership development. From charity days to music conferences, from football matches to autumn parties, each activity incorporates the process of student leadership development.
