本手：Honte, the proper move. It is a solid play that leaves few or no weaknesses behind and has a followup. It can sometimes be difficult to identify a honte, because its followup may be difficult to find. The opposite of honte is zokushu and usote.

妙手：Myoshu, "extraordinary", "excellent", "magnificent" move. A move surprising and startling in its insight. Harboring multiple aims in miraculous fashion. The term should be contrasted with tesuji, a skillful move in a merely local context. Of course, a myoshu can be local, as well.

俗手：Zokusuji, unsophisticated move, crude move, which achieves some simple objective but gets less out of the position than a better move.
