2022年5月30日,京领诺奖创新论坛暨国际学校颁奖典礼在京领平台圆满举办。这是一场以世界智慧启发中国国际教育的创新论坛,是一场极具专业性与影响力的国际学校颁奖盛典,更是一场由京领独家举办,助力教育事业发展、推动行业升级、促进创新人才培养的年度盛宴。参与此次论坛的嘉宾包括诺贝尔化学奖得主,哈佛、剑桥知名教授,全国知名国际学校校长等。

Peter Rogerson校长自1984年起在墨尔本黑利伯瑞学校任教。Peter先生被任命为天津校区外方校长至今,见证了黑利伯瑞在中国的发展与完善。其间Peter Rogerson先生获得过“2019国际教育行业年度贡献人物奖”,“2020年天津市政府海河友谊奖提名奖”,以及“2021年度国际学校领军人物”等众多奖项。

大家好,我叫皮特·罗杰森,是天津黑利伯瑞学校的执行校长。
我从事教育行业已有40年,从1984年起,我一直在澳大利亚墨尔本黑利伯瑞工作,最开始是一名高级数学、科学教师。2001年,我第一次加入国际教育,在天津的一所学校带领一名中国数学教师。从2010年起,我担任国际副校长,负责黑利伯瑞的境外项目,监督项目在中国八所学校的前景。我很激动地在2018年底接受了黑利伯瑞天津校区的职位,因为这让我有机会进一步热爱教学,关爱中国学生。
作为一所国际学校,我们把两个教育体系中最好的部分结合在一起,就像婚姻一样牢固。黑利伯瑞一直把学业优秀作为其首要的核心任务。但与此同时,学生需要培养其他素质,使他们成为一个全面的人,为成为全球优秀公民做好准备。
我们在实践中如何做到这一点呢?在可能的情况下,通过整合西方教育学,特别是在我们强大的英语课程中,我们通过实践培养学生的素质,如批判性思维、毅力、与他人合作。在我们的教育项目和涉及体育、技能、社区服务的课外项目中,我们培养和建立正直、尊重、多样性等品质,但始终着眼于学术卓越。
所有学校都希望招收最优秀、最聪明的学生,但实际上最好的学校可以包容各种各样的学生。良好的学习态度和对学习的坚持,这些品质在我们的学生中受到高度重视。如果问任何一个发明家是什么使他成功,他们会说是坚持。他们可能做了一些失败的尝试,后来即使这些发明成功了,他们也会继续寻求改进的方法,于是其他人就会追随他们的脚步。
黑利伯瑞学校也认识到学生面临的压力比以往任何时候都大,与此同时,互联网改变了我们获取和分享知识的方式,和我们那个时代相比,给孩子们的生活带来更多压力。我们处在一个快节奏且复杂的世界,儿童面临的问题比前几代人多得多,很多孩子还没有准备好。
认识到这一点,黑利伯瑞坚持自己的座右铭:“每一个学生的每一天至关重要。”我们拥有一个专门从事学生心理健康方面的辅导团队,辅导员的工作影响着学生们的每一天。他们可以根据学生们的个人需求一对一辅导,有时也和家庭一对一沟通。通常一个小小的干预可以真正帮助孩子的发展,所以作为一所学校,我们对于那些我们可以有所作为的领域保持警惕和积极的态度。
我们的小班教学模式让学生得到他们需要的关注,而专门的班主任老师为孩子提供了重要的精神指导。寄宿的学生都受到生活老师无微不至的照顾,宿管老师和每个学生都保持着良好的师生关系。在分部里,学生也有机会成为小组的一部分,他们需要作为一个团队参与体育和其他额外课程活动,这些活动也为学生提供了展示毅力、耐性和领导能力的机会。
黑利伯瑞同样关注毕业学子的生活。我们的第一批毕业生毕业于2016年,回首往事,我们为他们所取得的成就感到非常自豪——大约一半的毕业生被澳洲八大录取,这些大学都位列世界前100名;接下来40%左右的学生升入澳大利亚的其他大学,这些大学在世界排名前2%或3%;剩下10%左右的学生将前往其他国家,其中包括美国、加拿大、英国、欧洲和新加坡。为了支持他们的发展,我们学校设有专门的升学指导中心,我们为师生所取得的成就感到非常自豪。

English Version
Hello. My name is Peter Rogerson and I'm Exactly Principal of Haileybury School in Tianjin.
I've just finished my 40th year in education and have been working at Haileybury Melbourne, Australia since 1984, first as a senior mathematics and science teacher. I became involved in international education in 2001 when I mentored a Chinese maths teacher at a school in Tianjin. And since 2010, I've been assistant principal for Haileybury's offshore programs, overseeing their interests across eight schools in China.
I was thrilled when circumstances allowed me at the end of 2018 to accept the position at Haileybury's campus in Tianjin, because it gave me the opportunity to further my love of teaching and care for students here in China.
As an international school, we are bringing the best of two education systems together, like a strong marriage.Haileybury always has been a school of its aim for academic excellence, and its NO.1 core priority remains that academic excellence. But at the same time, students need to develop other qualities that will make them a rounded person, ready to become a good citizen of China and of the world.
But how do we do this in practice? By integrating western pedagogy and Chinese curriculum where possible, and this is especially evident in our strong English program. We are building in the students through practice quality such as critical thinking, perseverance, and collaboration with others. Throughout our education program and supplemented by our extracurricular program involving sports, skills, and community service, we develop and build quality such as integrity, respect, diversity, but at all times with an eye to academic excellence.
All schools hope to recruit the best and brightest students. But actually, the best schools can cater for a wide variety of students. Quality such as a good attitude to learning and persistence with their studies are qualities that we highly value in our students.Ask any inventor of something what led them to their invention and they'll answer persistence. They'd likely had invented many prototypes that did not work. And even after being successful, they would seek to improve on their invention. And others would later follow in their footsteps.
Haileybury School also recognize that students are under more pressure than ever before. Whilst the internet has changed the way we access and share knowledge, it's putting more pressure on students than we had in our generations. It's opened up the way for more stresses to come into a child's life. So what has developed is a high-paced and complex world where children face many more issues than previous generations, and many issues at a level where children are not ready for.
In recognition of this,Haileybury stays true to its motto of “every student matters every day”.We have a comprehensive mental wellness program delivered by our school counselors. The counselors deal with issues that affect young people in their daily living. They're also available to work with the individual needs of students one-to-one, and sometimes with the family, too. Often just a small intervention can really help a child's development. So, as a school we are alert and proactive to areas where we can make a difference.
We have small class sizes to give students the attention they need. And specialized Homeroom teachers that provide an important layer of pastoral care for the children. Those that are boarding students are well cared for by their life teachers who have a personal relationship with each child. Within their Homerooms, students also had the opportunity to be part of smaller groups that have needs to work together in sporting or other extracurricular activities. These activities also provide opportunities to students to show perseverance, resilience, and leadership.
Haileybury are also mindful of life beyond school after graduation. Our first graduates left us in 2016. And looking back, we are very proud of the pathways they have achieved. About half are accepted into the famous group of eight Australian universities that are all ranked in the Top 100 in the world. The next 40% or so go to study in other Australian universities ranked in the top 2% or 3% of the world. The remaining 10% or so of students will go to other destinations, including the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, and Singapore. To support them in these pathways, we have a dedicated careers and pathways coordinator, and we're very proud of her work and the students' achievements.
We want our graduates to be good citizens of this fast-changing world, adaptable and resilient with a strong sense of persistence and enquiry, life long learners, and a strong sense of social justice as well.In that way, our graduates will take with them the sense of “every student matters every day” into their adult life, in the sense that “every person matters every day”.
