近日，一则老奶奶在桂林阳朔月亮山景区，流利运用多国外语和外国游客交流的视频，引起众多网友关注与热议。

据了解，这位老奶奶名叫徐秀珍。 视频中，她讲述了自己如何在卖水的过程中学习英语。

她还会主动询问游客从哪国来的，遇到德国、以色列等国的游客，徐奶奶立刻无缝切换至德语 （German）、希伯来语 （Hebrew），向这些游客问好。

Videos of 77-year-old Xu Xiuzhen, who speaks different languages with foreigners while working at a scenic spot selling water, postcards and headdress flowers, have brought her instant fame.

老奶奶的语言功力惊到了一众游客，网友感叹，自学能力如此出众的老奶奶，如果年轻时有机会能够上学，也必定是一个学霸。

其实，徐奶奶只有小学三年级文凭，一点外语也不懂，她现在一口流利的外语是问出来的。

20多年前，桂林阳朔旅游业兴起，家中贫寒的徐奶奶便开始在村口月亮山卖水。随着旅游业发展，越来越多外国人来这里旅游。

一开始徐奶奶只会用中文问外国游客：“要水吗？”外国人见了说：“Wow, water”，徐奶奶这才知道water就是水的意思。

Xu’s village is located at the base of Moon Hill, a popular tourist destination famed for a moon-shaped hole at the summit. She has been working as a tour guide and vendor in Yangshuo, a county and resort town in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region since 1998, when the area became famous with foreign backpackers and organized tours. To support her family, Xu, who dropped out of junior school in the third grade, began to learn different languages in order to attract more foreign customers.

她特意准备了一个小本子，每次和外国人交流时，她总会细心记下别人口中的每一个单词，如果遇到听不懂的，就主动请教。问了之后还不懂就记在本子上。她用最老土、最“笨”的方法，死记硬背，用汉语去套。

就这样，小本用了一个又一个，上面密密麻麻记录着她的学习心得。她白天买水，晚上回到家中，睡前想一想，睡醒又再背一背。

Xu said she would convert words in any language into Chinese characters based on their pronunciation and then memorize them. Repeating the words in her head before going to bed and immediately after waking up has given her fluency in basic conversations with foreigners, she said.

在与外国游客频繁对话后，徐奶奶的外语也越来越好，能张口说出11国语言。

因为她语言沟通能力强，许多外国人遇上困难都来找她帮忙，有时还会邀请她带路。久而久之，徐秀珍便成为了月亮山的导游。

Over the past two decades, Xu has taught herself 11 foreign languages, including English, Spanish, Japanese and Korean. In addition to making her incredibly popular, her linguistic prowess has made it easier for her to communicate with foreign tourists. Xu has also become one of the busiest tour guides in Yangshuo. Her reputation draws a large crowd of tourists every day, especially foreign visitors, who come to meet the multilingual guide out of admiration.

徐秀珍还有一个名字，“月亮妈妈”。故事的由来也很感人。2002年一位来自加拿大的留学生在爬月亮山时身体不舒服，徐奶奶看见了，就主动给他抹风油精。留学生问她：“多少钱？”

徐奶奶说：“不要钱，你是学生没有钱。”

留学生很感动，在徐秀珍的小本子上写下了“月亮妈妈”（Mama Moon），从此，它就成了徐秀珍的另一个名字。

后来，徐秀珍还开了一家“月亮妈妈农家饭”餐馆，因为菜的味道好，游客们都慕名前来。

随着生意越来越红火，徐秀珍又投资了几十万元，建造了一个有二十几间房间的小旅馆，并且还开通了网上订房服务，为游客的入住提供了方便，也为自己带来了更多的收入。

Not content to simply serve as a tour guide, she now owns a popular restaurant and operates a reputable hotel. "More and more foreign tourists are coming to Yangshuo, and I hope they will feel at home here with my help," she said.

徐秀珍从一个小学没毕业的农村妇女，到现在的语言达人，其背后付出的艰辛只有她自己知道。

她用努力、勤劳和热心肠，学会了不同的语言，赢得了来自五湖四海的朋友的认可，也让自己过上了更好的生活，这样一份坚持值得我们学习。
