Xihe Dagu, known as Northern Shandong Wooden Dagu, was originated from the art of "Ci Hua" in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, and was formed during the reign of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty. Forced by life, Qin Heyi of Dongchang Mansion, followed a friend of Deping County to learn to sing the drum script, and later went out on his own . During the period of the Republic of China, due to the popularity of wooden dagu in Northern Shandong, which was also called "the Northern Shandong Wooden Dagu". The wooden dagu has been handed down for more than 300 years and has been passed down for 13 generations. It is a unique performance form in Northern Shandong and gains great popularity among audiences from all walks of life in urban and rural areas.
Mashihai, the main inheritor of the art of wooden dagu rap in Northern Shandong, was admitted as a member of Shandong Quyi Association in March 2005. Since 2008, he has participated in Huimin Hu Ji Book Fair for the seventh year in a row, he has been loved by the audience for his highly skilled performance, and he also has been invited to participate in the Fair for many times and was rated as an excellent actor. Liu Lanfang, a famous storytelling artist, watched Ma Shihai's wooden dagu performance at the Hu Ji Book Fair and spoke highly of him.
In March 2016, the Xihe Dagu was included in the fourth batch of intangible cultural heritage list of Shandong Province.
齐鲁网·闪电新闻12月14日讯西河大鼓亦称鲁北木板大鼓。鲁北木板大鼓起源于元、明时期的“词话”艺术,形成于清乾隆年间。东昌府秦和义为生活所迫,跟随德平县一位朋友学唱大鼓书,后来自立门户。民国时期,因木板大鼓流行于鲁北一带,故而又称“鲁北木板大鼓”。木板大鼓流传至今已有300余年之久,传承13代,是鲁北地区独具特色的表演形式,深受城乡各阶层观众的喜好。
马士海——鲁北木板大鼓说唱艺术的主要传承人,于2005年3月被山东省曲艺协会吸纳为会员。2008年以来,连续七年参加惠民胡集书会,由于功底深厚,技艺精湛,深得广大观众喜爱,多次受邀参会并被评为优秀演员。著名评书表演艺术家刘兰芳在胡集书会观看马士海的木板大鼓演出,给予高度评价。
2016年3月列入山东省第四批非物质文化遗产名录。
