今天我们来学习三组同义替换，一个动词短语，两个动词。我所挑出来的这些词汇不仅可以用在阅读、翻译、写作中，还会在听力中出现，大家要引起重视哦。
严格来说，它们应该是「同近义替换」。因为很少会有一个单词与另一个单词完全相同的情况。
01
guard against sth 防止，避免
guard against = avoid

guard against sth
guard 是我们的常用词汇，不管是名词，还是动词，我们都见过无数次。作动词时，guard 可以表示「保卫，守卫」，所以「守着入口」是 guard the entrance。另外，它也可表示「看守，监视」，这时 be guarded 的滋味就不好受了。
作动词的 guard 通常只和一个介词搭配，是哪位幸运儿？灯灯，against。加上它后，整个词组用来表示 against to take care to prevent sth or to protect yourself from sth「防止某事发生，防范」，可替换 avoid, prevent。比如，guard against accidents 是「防止事故」，guard against disease 是「预防疾病」。这个短语在四六级中多次出现，外刊也常用。好，下面我们来浏览《经济学人》的例句，两次用到了这个词组。其中，futures 指「期货」而不是「未来」，不能变成 future 哦。
Futures are a tool for producers to guard against prices plunging and for consumers to guard against them soaring.

soothe 缓解

喜欢的那个人笑起来特别「治愈」，「治愈」二字怎么说？学会这个单词就可以夸人夸得与众不同了。这个单词意思是 「安慰，抚慰」，与 calm 类似。比如，soothe your nerves 是指「让自己放松下来」。对应的形容词是 soothing，所以「治愈人心的笑容」就是 a soothing smile 。
此外，soothe 还可以用来表示 to cause (pain) to go away or become less severe「缓解」疼痛、焦虑等，与 relieve, alleviate 相近。下面我们来看《经济学人》的一个例句，其中 in one sense 意思是「从某种意义上说」。
In one sense that is a good thing, for it soothes fears about safety.
某种意义上这也是件好事，因为缓解了人们对安全的担忧。

prize 重视

这个单词谁看谁熟，但我们却不能忽视这颗小词。因为 prize 除了表示名词「礼物」外，还可以作动词。提到「重视」，脑海中首先蹦出的是哪个单词？pay attention to？value？从今以后，你还可以蹦出一个 prize。因为它作动词时也可以表示「重视」，而且是「高度重视」。所以 prize our friendship 是「珍视友谊」的意思。这个用法在外刊中非常普遍，我们来看个《经济学人》的例句。
In rich countries consumption has shifted from the sorts of electronic goods that are prized by people working from home to the services people enjoy when they are able to move and mingle.
