前几天台风“苏拉”登陆广东，深圳等地全市停课、延迟开学。刚送走“苏拉”，台风“海葵”又登陆了，导致福建多地紧急停课。

“停”是stop，“课”是class，“停课”可不是stop class！

一、短暂的“停课”

台风来了，不是不走了，只是短暂地停留几天就走。

所以，短暂的“停课”可以用“suspend / səˈspend; səˋspɛnd/使（某事物）暂停”这个词来表达，即：

suspend class

Mini V got the news that classes at all schools were to remain suspended.

小V我（VOA英语城）刚刚得到消息，所有学校都将继续停课。

还可以用其被动语态形式：

the class has been suspended

The class has been suspended, and all Mini V's students left school at 16:00.

停课了，小V我（VOA英语城）的所有学生都在16:00时离开了学校。

二、某个同学被“停学”

这时，可以拓展刚学的知识，可以用：

sb. is suspended from school

如果是停工或停职就用：

sb. is suspended from work

One of Mini V's students is suspended from school for three days for bad conduct.

小V我（VOA英语城）的一个学生因行为不端被停学三天。

三、长时间“停课”

像刚刚结束的暑假，还有这个学期末要放的寒假，这种长时间的“停课”就不可以刚才说的suspend class来表达了。

长时间的“停课”可以这么说：

school is closed.

He told Mini V the school was closed during the winter vacation/break.

他告诉小V（VOA英语城），学校在寒假期间停课。

四、被强制“停课”

遇到一些特殊情况，可能会被强制“停课”。这时可以使用表达：

stop students from having class

The criminal threatens Mini V that if I don't give him one million within two hours, he will stop all students in the building from having class.

罪犯威胁小V（VOA英语城）说，如果我不在两小时内给他一百万，他就不让教学楼里的所有学生上课。

五、取消课程

由于某些原因，比如招生人数太少，相应老师辞职时一时又招不到合适的老师，不得不取消课程。那么，“取消课程”可以这么说：

cancel the class

或被动语态：the class is canceled，（英式拼写要双写l，即cancelled）

Mini V know for sure the class was cancelled.

小V我（VOA英语城）很肯定那节课被取消了。

六、恢复上课

这里得用到一个词，resume [rɪˈzjuːm]。

resume指（停顿后）继续进行（某同一件事）：

resume class

Mini V heard on the grapevine that when the typhoon was gone, all schools swiftly resumed classes.

小V我（VOA英语城）听小道消息说，台风过后，所有学校都迅速恢复上课了。
