《莫题湖MOTIF》是花哨密室乐队于2023年7月发行的全长专辑,全专七曲,总长近55分钟,展现了乐队多源且特有的语言方式。一个个来自本源(MOTIF)的镜像,被打碎被重组,呈现在这张“混沌”的作品集中。

MOTIF is a full-length album released by Beijing-based band Whistling Chambers in July 2023. Consisting of seven songs, it has a total length of nearly 55 minutes, showing the band's diverse but unique language style. MOTIF is also the motifs of Whistling Chambers. Inner images deep inside the band's mind and their music influences are shattered in MOTIF but also reassembled, presented in this collection of chaotic works.

花哨密室来自北京,音乐深受Indie风潮影响,融合迷幻、后朋、噪音波普、概念阶构等多种元素。

Deeply influenced by the Indie trend since the 1990s, Whistling Chambers' music integrated sources widely to include psychedelic rock, post-punk, noise pop, and progressive rock.

新专《莫题湖MOTIF》具有强烈的叙事感与律动感,基于多种风格的融合,不断带着听众经过湍流与波涛,在失衡中找到微妙的平衡,在一片迷雾中寻找被禁锢的自由。

With a strong sense of narrative rhythm and a fusion of various styles, the album takes the audience through huge turbulence and waves, but finds subtle balance sometimes. Almost a soul-stirring journey, it mirrors a searching of imprisoned freedom from a mist.

VIBEZ万是音乐

这并不是一张时髦的专辑,整体风格也很难精准、明确指认。在制作过程里,我们有过不少关于专辑整体声音风格化的讨论,设想让所有歌的声音都向一个既往类型上靠;但我们又觉得不同的歌有着自己独特的“motif(本源)”与情绪脉络,也就有着自己独特的声音呈现内在“逻辑”。所以最终我们并没有强求声音风格的绝对统一化,而是根据每一首作品的情绪、氛围、段落发展去营造它们各自的Soundscape(声景)。

专辑制作上,我们没有太过追求各声部的清晰度或分离度,反而更看重各个器乐在不同频段上的融合度与互补/互动,尽可能让音乐有更多的整体感以及现场感。在响度方面,我们也比较保守,这种克制可以更多的保留音乐段落之间的动态--音量大小的变化、起伏与呼吸。因此这张专辑给人的感觉也许并不当代,反而有了一丝复古的意味。

我们从作品里感受到阴郁、迷幻、迷乱,冷酷与热烈,温情与狂躁、幻灭与生机等等不一而足的细微、具体与恢宏,我们希望用不同的声音表现形式去形成一些或飘渺或实在又各异的意象。这些意象和场景有机或无机串联着,应该能够让不同的听者经历一段或多段属于自己的本源之旅。”

从业逾二十年,参与多张音乐专辑录音制作,与国内外众多知名乐团、音乐节、演唱会合作,近些年开始参与电影原创配乐的环绕声混录。其中,就实验先锋及摇滚乐而言,曾与John Zorn、大友良英、灰野敬二、珊寇、刘索拉、木玛、声音玩具、发梦茱莉等展开合作。

With an experience of music production over two decades, Jack Guo has cooperated with a great number of bands and musicians in their albums, and worked with numerous concerts and music festivals. In recent years, he has also frequently participated in multi-channel surrounding sound recording and mixing of film soundtracks. Among those who cooperated with him, in the spectrum of experimental, avant-garde and rock music, were John Zorn, Otomo Yoshihide, Keiji Haino, Sainkho, Liu Sola, Muma, Sound Toy and Dreaming Julie.

如果说这是一张另类迷幻专辑,「意象之一」可能是迷幻中的另类。在不急不缓不燥不丧的飘忽中,用律动上的“纠缠与眩晕”讲诉飘忽隐晦的意识。

Say the album is an alternative psychedelic album, "One of the Imageries" might be an alternative in psychedelic rock. In the drift of moderate and fleeting grooving, it brings out a stream of consciousness with "entanglement and dizziness" .

金光灿灿的恢宏大厦中,裂纹也无声延展,灰暗处仍隐隐传来哭泣,在动荡之中所有人的眼睛都望着天空,但是天空也只是望向虚空。

In the magnificent golden mansion, cracks silently extend. In the shadows, weeping faintly heard. In the turmoil, people raise their head to the sky, while the sky is merely looking towards the void.

纵身一跃,灵眼闪现。这个作品在某个时刻决定了花哨密室之所以为花哨密室——抛弃即是拥有。

Leap, an eye of inspiration opens. At some point, this work determines why Whistling Chambers became Whistling Chambers - dropping to absorb.

全长9分39秒,是专辑中第二长作品。迷幻并不只基于延迟与混响,在整体音乐性上还有太多可探索处。不得不说,这首作品,乐队有向The Verve致敬的嫌疑。

It lasts for 9:39 as the second longest work in the album. For psychedelic, there are too much to explore in overall musicality besides huge delay and reverb. Have to say, the song is somehow some kind of tribute to The Verve.

一个想象中的故事,关于人,关于山川湖海,关于挣脱,关于困斗,关于悲悯。后朋基底的犀利,通过节拍的些微错位,带来隐秘的不稳定性。

An imaginary story about people, mountain and rivers, about breaking free, struggling and compassion. With a sharpness of post-punk base, hidden instability is enforced by slightly mismatched rhythm.

简单却充满美学考量。弥漫的巨大音墙,飘忽的滑棒,带来听觉上的包裹和微刺。律动上形成的“走”的感觉,将主题上的“Pain”以一种无言的方式消解。

The vast sound wall and the swaying slide bring auditory wrapping and pricking. It is simple yet aesthetically different. The groove of a "walking feeling" dissolves the "Pain" on the theme in a silent way.

听觉上的舞台剧。专辑中最长,也可能是创作上起伏最大的一个作品,全曲仅差6秒即12分钟,经过漫长动荡的通道,各种意象逐次展现,曲折情绪与强烈叙事性并存,最后带听者进入飞旋的虚空。

Almost a musical! As the longest and possibly the most undulating work in the album, the entire song is nearly 12 minutes. After a long and turbulent passage, various images are presented one by one, with twists and turns and strong narrative. Finally, it takes the audience into the swirling void.

█ 花哨密室——莫提湖专辑,今年的摇滚惊喜之声。沉重巧妙鼓与Bass line紧密交织,混响吉他,考究的电子音色,搭建出深邃,迷乱的梦境,突然转向的和声进行把人带入更深的迷宫,从音乐到文本表达,这是一张难得的艺术性专辑。
