Today we will introduce certain terms on the theme of "Ecological Space and Urban Resilience", which is the theme of 2023 No. 4 issue of our journal. And if you are interested in the four papers on the theme, please leave your message.

01

Permanent Prime Farmland (永久基本农田)

Permanent prime farmland refers to the farmland that cannot be used for any other purposes in any circumstances except grain cultivation. This concept was first proposed on the Third Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee in 2008 and then written in the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China in 2019 for the purpose of ensuring China’s food security. For delimitating permanent prime farmlands, the tool of permanent prime farmland protection redline is used in the territorial and spatial planning of different levels.

02

Ecological Protection Redline (生态保护红线)

The ecological protection redline is a tool of territorial and spatial planning to delineate the areas that have ecological significance and must be strictly protected. The ecological protection areas delineated by the ecological protection redline usually include the areas for water source conservation, biodiversity maintenance, soil and water conservation, wind and sand fixation, as well as those of ecological sensitivity and vulnerability.

03

Blue-Green Space (蓝绿空间)

Blue-green space, as a common terminology in the field of territorial and spatial planning, refers to the open space with nature as the main body in urban areas. It includes the blue space of surface water bodies, such as rivers, lakes, and wetlands, and the green space of green systems, such as greenways, forests, and parks. It not only carries the functions of ecological protection and environmental beautification, but also provides necessary places for residents’ social and physical activities, which is an important guarantee for improving residents’ well-being and building a healthy and resilient city.
