Giacomo Bruni
I am Giacomo Bruni, an International student from Italy, and my Chinese name is Jia Kemu贾客暮, which is phonetically similar to my Italian name. I am about to graduate from the School of Chinese Painting at the China Academy of Art. In 2012, I first came to China as a member of an exchange program, with very limited knowledge about the country. However, over time, I delved deeper into Chinese culture. From 2017, I began focusing on the art of Chinese landscape painting, never letting go of my brush since.
In 2020, my wife and I founded Shanshui Projects (www.shanshuiprojects.net) to promote contemporary Chinese painting through magazines, exhibitions, lectures, and workshops. This project stems from our deep passion for Chinese art and our desire to share it with global viewers. Meanwhile, my travels across Europe, Africa, and Asia have broadened my understanding of nature and humanity, and have allowed me to exhibit my work in various cities. Through these works, I hope to enable people, even in urban settings, to feel the beauty of nature and resonate deeply with it.

At the 2024 graduation exhibition of CAA, I created a Chinese painting that allows viewers to walk on it. The aim is to eliminate the barrier between the viewer and the painting, allowing both body and spirit to merge into the natural environment depicted in the work. Through this interaction, I hope the audience can find a connection with nature within the art and experience a sense of immersion.

Looking to the future, I plan to stay in China and continue my artistic endeavors. There are still many beautiful mountains and rivers in China waiting for me to explore, and much knowledge about Chinese culture for me to learn. I hope to continue my journey of research and study around the world, teaching and promoting Chinese painting, and sharing this rich cultural heritage with a global audience. Through my efforts, I aspire to introduce the unique charm of Chinese painting to more people and foster a deep appreciation for its beauty.

Roh Suhyun
My name is Roh Suhyun, and I am a 2024 graduate of the School of Intermedia Art (SIMA) at the China Academy of Art. I come from Gyeonggi-do, near Seoul, South Korea. During my studies in the UK, I met a group of like-minded Chinese friends who not only enriched my life with diverse experiences but also sparked my deep interest in the multifaceted cultures of Asia. This experience became one of the key reasons I chose to pursue further studies at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou.
The inspiration for my graduation project comes from the profound experiences of my family and myself in battling illness, leading to a multilayered contemplation of the theme of "life and death." Throughout my creative process, I focused particularly on bodily scars and drew a parallel between them and stones in nature, discovering remarkable similarities. The weathering and metamorphosis of stone surfaces, akin to human skin scars, chronicle the passage of time and the journey of life, reflecting the cycle and renewal of both nature and individual existence.

My graduation project uses the imagery of stones, inspired by the Korean tradition of stacking stone towers in mountainous areas or temples to pray for health. These stones in my work are not real stones but handcrafted from paper, with their outer layers covered by photos of wounds taken by me and my friends, and the interiors filled with discarded paper from my friends' calligraphy practice. Though lightweight, each scar on these paper stones carries untold stories, endowing the "scar stones" with a profound significance beyond their physical weight. Through this work, I aim to transform people's negative perceptions of scars, revealing that our bodies and everything around us are integral parts of nature's perpetual transformation. We should learn to reconcile with our scars, accepting and cherishing nature's gifts.
After the graduation exhibition, my pursuit of art will not cease. I plan to continue my journey at CAA as a doctoral student, aspiring to create more profound works!

My name is Lim Wee Yap, and I am the fourth generation of my family living in Malaysia, born in the city of Johor Bahru, located at the southernmost tip of the Eurasian continent.
I initially studied ceramics at the Jingdezhen Ceramic University, exploring contemporary art. However, immersed in the traditional ceramic-making atmosphere of Jingdezhen, I developed a strong interest in Chinese traditional art. As an overseas Chinese, my identification with Chinese culture has grown stronger over time, leading me to choose to study at the School of Crafts of the China Academy of Art, hoping to unveil the mysteries of Chinese traditional art here.

Here, I had the privilege of meeting my mentor, Professor He Shiyang, who has a profound understanding of Chinese traditional art and has answered many of my questions. I also had the opportunity to follow in his footsteps and complete the project "Southern Mural", which laid the foundation for my graduation project on traditional mural wall production and painting.
My work is titled The Glamour of Wei and Jin Dynasties (AD 220-420), using both scroll painting and mural painting to showcase the demeanor of the Wei and Jin literati, with the hope of experiencing the beauty of Chinese traditional art in the process.
