Liyuan Opera is one of the traditional operatic forms in Fujian Province, originating from Quanzhou during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. It is often acclaimed as the "living fossil" of ancient Southern Chinese opera. Liyuan Opera performances adhere to a comprehensive set of strict and standardized performance forms, with each role strictly following these guidelines.
音乐保留了南戏的鼓、萧、弦伴奏为主的形式;唱腔源于晋唐古乐,一字多腔,用泉音演唱;打击乐以南鼓(压脚鼓)为主,打法独特。
The music in Liyuan Opera retains the use of drums, flutes, and string instruments as the primary forms of accompaniment. The singing style originates from ancient Jin and Tang Dynasty music, characterized by using one word for multiple melodies and sung in the Quan dialect. The percussion instruments, mainly the Southern Drum (Press-Foot Drum), have a unique playing style.
梨园戏分为小梨园(七子班)和大梨园的“上路”、“下南”三流派,梨园戏至今仍存在于舞合表演上,保留了原生态舞台艺术。
Liyuan Opera is divided into three major schools: Xiaoliyuan (Seven Characters Troupe), Shanglu (Upper Route), and Xianan (Lower Southern). Liyuan Opera continues to exist in dance-based performances, preserving its original ecological stage art.
