One evening, just as the sun was setting over the lake, Sophie was sitting by the dock, dipping her toes in the cool water. Suddenly, she noticed a figure emerging from the woods on the other side of the lake. It was a boy, about her age, rowing a small boat toward her side.

As he approached, he waved and smiled. “Hi! I’m Oliver. I live across the lake,” he said as he jumped out of the boat and onto the dock. His clothes were slightly old-fashioned, but he had a warm, friendly look about him.

“I’m Sophie. We just moved here,” she replied.

Oliver seemed to know a lot about the area, and they spent the evening talking about the village, the woods, and the lake. He told her about the legend of a hidden treasure, said to be buried deep in the forest, waiting to be found by someone brave enough to look.

“I can show you the way if you’d like,” Oliver said with a mischievous grin. Sophie wasn’t sure if he was serious, but the idea of an adventure excited her.
