On March 21, 2025, Mr. CHEN Peng, senior partner, director of the cross-border business and compliance business of Beijing Jotai Law Firm, together with senior executives from several well-known international groups,was invited toattendthe all-French lecture "Sharing Session on International Practical Experience" organized bytheSino-French Engineer School of Beihang University(“CENTRALE PEKIN”)forpostgraduate students.

CENTRALE PEKIN requires students to master French in addition to English. This poses a considerable challenge for Chinese students who have grown up in a Chinese language environment. At the same time, as students are still in the university, they lack understanding of future professional environment, especially showing a lack of confidence in international communication under different cultural backgrounds. It is precisely for this reason that CENTRALE PEKIN specially invited several senior "career experts" proficient in French to have face-to-face exchanges with the students. Among the guests, some are native French speakers, while others come from non-French-speaking countries such as China, Russia, and the United States. With different learning and professional experiences, they gave fascinating sharing from their unique perspectives in response to the common difficulties of the students.

As an alumnus of Beihang University and a Doctor of Law in France, Mr. CHEN Peng, relying on his years of practical experience in cross-border legal work in French language, emphatically introduced to the students the significance of learning French, the special relevance between French and aviation-related professional fields, as well as the characteristics of international career development path and other issues, and actively interacted with the students. Mr. CHEN Peng emphasized that under the Sino-French joint education model of the school, French and the major of aviation engineering form an excellent combination, which not only gives an additional practical significance to learning French but also opens the door to French culture for the students. Moreover, French has always been renowned in the world for its preciseness and logic. Mastering French proficiently will definitely help students further improve their abilities in rational thinking and logical analysis. He also encouraged students to actively participate in the program to study in France, experience personally different cultures, broaden their horizons, and enrich their experiences, so as to better understand and adapt to the future international working environment.

Subsequently, regarding the question raised by the students about the "relationship between law and science and engineering disciplines", Mr. CHEN Peng not only explained the fundamental differences between the "civil law system" and the "common law system", but also analyzed the importance of combining legal thinking with knowledge of science and engineering in practice. At the same time, he also hoped that the students could break through the limitations of their existing professional fields, boldly explore other directions, and use their "interdisciplinary" comprehensive abilities to create more development opportunities for themselves.

Mr. CHEN Peng's sharing was rich in content and unique in insights, receiving high praise from teachers and students of CENTRALE PEKIN. His experience sharing not only provided valuable suggestions for the students in French learning and career development but also pointed out the direction for the students in interdisciplinary exploration.

The Cross-border Business Committee of Beijing Jotai Law Firm, as a professional team with French as one of its service features, also hopes to continue to provide more support for Sino-French educational and professional cooperation, as well as Sino-French economic and trade exchanges.

CENTRALE PEKINwas established in 2005. It is a Sino-French cooperation project co-established by Beihang University and Le Groupe des Ecoles Centrales (a group of five central schools in Paris, Lyon, Lille, Nantes and Marseille). Its aim is to cultivate high-level international general engineers. CENTRALE PEKIN has passed the accreditation by CTI (Commission des titres d’ingénieurs) and EUR-ACE (Accréditation des formations d’ingénieurs en Europe), and has the qualification to award the French diploma of engineer. It has also been selected among the first group by the Chinese Ministry of Education to join its Program for Training Outstanding Engineers, and is one of the exemplary models of Sino-French university cooperation.

Mr. CHEN holds legal qualifications in both China and France. He is holder of a Ph.D. in law from Aix-Marseille University in France, a Specialized Master’s Degree from Aix-Marseille University’s Insurance Research Institute in France, a Master’s degree in Civil and Commercial Law from Renmin University Law School in China, and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Beihang University in China. Mr. CHEN previously worked in the legal department of the French insurance brokerage group La Sécurité Nouvelle in Paris, France. He later joined the Beijing representative office of the French law firm DS Avocats. He specializes in foreign investment in China, overseas investment projects by Chinese enterprises, especially in investment projects related to France and the French-speaking West African region. Mr. CHEN is well-versed in the legal environment of France, the European Union, and the French-speaking West African region.
