It started with a mistake.
Flight 812 to Edinburgh, seat 17A.
Amelia had just settled in, hoodie up, eyes half-closed, ready to zone out for the next hour.
She reached into the seat pocket and pulled out the airline’s headset—
or so she thought.
It was already plugged in.
Curious, she put it on.
Instead of classical music or in-flight announcements,
a voice spoke through one ear:
“If you’re hearing this, you took the wrong headphones. But don’t worry—I’m not mad. In fact, welcome to Channel 7.”
Amelia blinked, surprised.
“Channel 7 is for travelers who forgot a book, can’t sleep, or just need a friendly voice.”
It wasn’t a flight attendant.
It sounded like… a recording?
But it was personal, funny, oddly timed.
The voice continued:
“Since you’re here, I’ll tell you a secret: I always get nervous during takeoff. So I made this—kind of like a distraction.”
She smiled.
Somehow, her heart relaxed with the ascent.
Over the next forty-five minutes,
the voice shared stories:
a train missed in Lisbon,
a best friend left behind in Tokyo,
a love letter never sent.
Each tale soft and honest,
told like they were meant just for her.
When the plane began to descend, the voice said:
“If you ever want to reply, leave a note in Seat 17B next time you fly. Ask for Channel 7. Maybe I’ll be listening.”
The seat beside her was empty the whole flight.
But Amelia reached into her bag,
tore out a page from her journal,
and wrote:
“I’m scared of landings. But this time, I wasn’t. Thanks, Channel 7.” —A
She tucked it into the seat pocket of 17B.
And six months later, on a different flight—
same route, different day—
she opened the seat pocket in 17A.
Inside, a note.
“Still scared of takeoff. Still here, if you need company.” —C7Multiple Choice Questions
