在天津法拉古特学校的校园中，有一位阳光少年，他以相机定格校园的点滴瞬间，用操控杆驾驭无人机翱翔于蓝天之上。他便是 Senior2 班的周子轩（Michael），凭借对生活的热忱与不懈的努力，成功斩获多所世界知名学府的青睐，其中包括：加州大学欧文分校（University of California, Irvine）、加州大学戴维斯分校（University of California, Davis）、罗格斯大学新布朗斯维克校区（Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey - New Brunswick）、俄亥俄州立大学（Ohio State University）、明尼苏达大学双城分校（University of Minnesota, Twin Cities）、纽约州立大学石溪分校（Stony Brook University, State University of New York）、密歇根州立大学（Michigan State University）。

初入校园：在实践中开启能力进阶

“小学时期我就特别喜欢参加各类校园活动，性格开朗的我总想着能有更多展示自己的机会，这也是我选择法拉古特的重要原因。” Michael笑着回忆道。法拉古特自由开放的氛围，让他对未来的校园生活满怀憧憬。

入学之初，恰逢校园记者站筹建，Michael毫不犹豫地成为首批学员。凭借出众的表现与过人的能力，他迅速获得老师的认可，成为学校记者站有史以来的首位站长。在任期间，他参与了众多大型活动的采访与拍摄工作：运动会上，他穿梭于赛场边缘，捕捉运动员拼搏的瞬间；感恩节义卖时，他用镜头记录同学们热心公益的温暖画面；毕业典礼上，他忙碌地用相机定格众人的青春记忆。

“每次活动前，都要和各小组同学仔细沟通任务细节，这个过程让我学会了更好地与人交往，也锻炼了我的组织策划能力和领导力。” Michael表示，这段经历为他的成长奠定了坚实基础。

逐梦蓝天，让兴趣在校园扎根生长

也许是受家人的影响，一直以来Michael都有一颗飞上云霄的梦想。而由于身体原因，他无法通过招飞要求，但是他没有放弃飞上蓝天的初心，选择用无人机飞行的方式继续实现自己从儿时至今的蓝天梦、机长梦。学校则为这份兴趣的发展提供了肥沃的土壤。

12 年级时，Michael在中国民航大学成功获得中国民航总局认证的无人机执照后，学校老师给予高度重视，为他提供了诸多分享平台：不仅为其安排专访，还依据他的口述撰写报道，让更多人了解他与无人机的故事。学校每年有前往电视台接受采访的机会，基于他在无人机领域的突出表现，他获得了这个展示自我的平台。

学校还为他提供了展示无人机技术的机会：运动会上，他以无人机航拍运动员的精彩瞬间；双旦音乐会时，他用无人机记录筹备过程；今年毕业照拍摄之际，学校特邀他以无人机航拍的方式，记录毕业大合影的精彩与美好。

12年级上学期，学校邀请低空经济领域的专业人士来校举办讲座，Michael作为学生代表与专业人士进行了深入交流并建立联系，这为他在该领域的发展提供了更加专业的资源和舞台。

兼顾多方，在平衡中收获全面发展

“学习的时候专心学习，参加活动的时候全身心投入，这是我平衡学业和课外活动的原则。”Michael坚定地说。

去年暑假，他对时间进行了合理规划：七月份整月投入雅思与北美课程考试的准备工作，期间关闭所有无用的社交功能，除周日外，每日在自习室学习 6-7 小时；八月份则调整状态，前往自己儿时的梦校——中国民航大学，参加无人机执照考试培训，上午在烈日当空的训练场进行飞行训练，下午则专注于理论考试的准备及实操技能与规范流程的复习。

北美课程注重平时表现，关注小测、作业及课堂出勤与表现情况，这对于不擅长应试的Michael而言颇为适宜。11 年级一整年的英语类课程为公共演讲课，性格外向的他对此饶有兴致，乐于用英文讲述自身经历。在这门课程中，他不仅习得演讲技巧，还变得更加自信，能够从容地用英文表达自我，这对他未来选择传媒专业大有裨益。

蓄力前行，用独特经历扣响名校之门

“无人机飞行执照成了我申请海外大学时，个人活动和经历里最与众不同的素材。”Michael说。在申请加州地区大学时，因恰好有契合的主题，他将获得无人机执照的经历及其在中国的含金量写入申请材料。

被欧文分校列入WL后，他在 Love Letter 中提及拍摄无人机培训宣传片的计划 —— 这与传媒专业高度契合，加之执照由中国民航总局授权、在中国民航大学考取的双重权威背书，最终助他成功转正。

At the campus of Farragut School in Tianjin, there is a sunny young man who captures the fleeting moments of campus life through his camera and skillfully maneuvers a drone through the blue skies with a control stick. He is Michael Zhou, a student in Senior 2 class. With his passion for life and relentless efforts, he has successfully secured offers from several world-renowned universities, including: University of California, Irvine; University of California, Davis; Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey - New Brunswick; Ohio State University; University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Stony Brook University, State University of New York, and Michigan State University.

Entering Campus: Starting Your Journey of Skill Development Through Practice

“I loved participating in various school activities when I was in elementary school. With my outgoing personality, I always wanted more opportunities to showcase myself, which is one of the main reasons I chose Farragut,” Michael recalls with a smile. Farragut's free and open atmosphere fills him with anticipation for his future school life.

Upon enrolling, Michael eagerly joined the newly established campus journalism club as one of its first members. Thanks to his outstanding performance and exceptional abilities, he quickly gained the recognition of his teachers and became the first-ever editor-in-chief of the school’s journalism club. During his tenure, he participated in the reporting and photography for numerous major events: at sports meets, he darted around the edges of the field, capturing the athletes’ moments of intense competition; during the Thanksgiving charity sale, he used his camera to record the warm scenes of students enthusiastically participating in public welfare activities; at the graduation ceremony, he busily used his camera to capture everyone's youthful memories.

2024 Thanksgiving Charity Sale，Michael represents the school in donating drones to a charitable organization and giving a presentation.

“Before each activity, I had to carefully communicate the task details with the students in each group. This process taught me how to interact with people better and also trained my organizational planning and leadership skills.” Michael said that this experience laid a solid foundation for his growth.

Pursuing dreams in the blue sky, letting interests take root and grow on campus

Michael has always had a dream of flying high in the sky. This may have been influenced by his family, but due to physical reasons, he was unable to meet the requirements for becoming a pilot. However, he did not give up on his original dream of flying in the sky. Instead, he chose to continue pursuing his childhood dream of flying in the sky and becoming a pilot by flying drones. The school provided fertile ground for the development of this interest.

In his senior year, after Michael successfully obtained a drone license certified by the Civil Aviation Administration of China at the Civil Aviation University of China, his teachers at school took great interest in him and provided him with numerous platforms to share his story. They not only arranged exclusive interviews for him but also wrote reports based on his oral accounts, allowing more people to learn about his journey with drones. The school offers annual opportunities for students to appear on television for interviews, and based on his outstanding performance in the field of drones, he was granted this platform to showcase himself.

The school also provided him with opportunities to showcase his drone technology: at the sports meet, he used a drone to capture exciting moments of the athletes; at the Christmas and New Year's concert, he used a drone to record the preparations; and when it was time to take graduation photos this year, the school specially invited him to use a drone to capture the excitement and beauty of the graduation group photo.

In the first semester of 12th grade, the school invited professionals in the field of low-altitude economy to give a lecture at the school. Michael, as a student representative, had in-depth exchanges with the professionals and established connections with them, which provided him with more professional resources and a platform for development in this field.

Balancing multiple interests to achieve comprehensive development

“Focus on studying when studying, and devote yourself fully to activities when participating in them. This is my principle for balancing my studies and extracurricular activities,” Michael said firmly.

Last summer, he made a reasonable plan for his time: he spent the entire month of July preparing for the IELTS and North American course exams, during which time he turned off all unnecessary social media functions and studied for 6-7 hours a day in the study room, except on Sundays. In August, he adjusted his mindset and traveled to his childhood dream school—China Civil Aviation University—to participate in drone license exam training. In the mornings, he conducted flight training under the blazing sun at the training field, and in the afternoons, he focused on preparing for the theoretical exam and reviewing practical skills and standard procedures.

North American courses emphasize regular performance, focusing on quizzes, homework, and classroom attendance and performance. This is particularly suitable for Michael, who is not particularly adept at standardized testing. The entire 11th-grade English course was a public speaking class, which he found particularly engaging, as he is an outgoing person who enjoys sharing his experiences in English. In this course, he not only developed public speaking skills but also became more confident, able to express himself comfortably in English, which will be highly beneficial for his future choice of a media studies major.

Gathering strength to move forward, using unique experiences to knock on the doors of prestigious universities

“My drone pilot license became the most unique part of my personal activities and experiences when I applied to universities overseas,” Michael said. When applying to universities in California, he included his experience of obtaining a drone license and its value in China in his application materials, as it happened to fit the theme.

Michael successfully became an beyond-visual-line-of-sight pilot for multi-rotor drones (drone captain).

After much effort, Michael successfully obtained a “Civil Unmanned Aircraft Pilot License.”

After being placed on the waitlist by the Irvine campus, he mentioned his plan to shoot a promotional video for drone training in his Love Letter — this was highly relevant to his media studies major. Additionally, the license was authorized by the Civil Aviation Administration of China and obtained from the Civil Aviation University of China, providing dual authoritative endorsement, which ultimately helped him secure admission.

From his early days as a campus reporter to mastering drone operation, Michael's time at Farragut has been guided by passion, with his actions charting a clear path of growth. Those flight paths etched across the sky are not only vivid memories of his youth but also a resounding declaration of his future aspirations — when pure passion meets unwavering perseverance, every young dreamer can carve out their own vast domain in the realm of their ideals.
