Re River and surrounding landscape
赫达·莫里逊（Hedda Hammer Morrison，1908－1991），生于德国南部的斯图加特，父亲是个出版商。莫里逊的家里后来曾经送她到奥地利的因斯布鲁克的医学院去攻读，但她不久就说服家人，改到慕尼黑最早开办的一家摄影学校学习，从此开始了摄影师的生涯。
赫达二十四岁那年（一九三三年）偶然在一份摄影杂志的广告上发现，中国北京的一家德国人开设的哈同照相馆正在征召一名会讲英、法、德语的女摄影师。她认为这个职位非己莫属：她会这三种语言，她的施瓦布地区的出身——当地人在德国以刻苦耐劳著称，而且她还是个女性——老板的盘算是可以少付些薪水。结果不出她的所料，北京的照相馆果然相中了她。
那个时代的中国，对于一个德国年轻的单身女性来说，实在是个遥不可及的地方。但她还是只身离开德国前来中国，随身仅有的重要物品就是一架柔来福来的双镜头反光相机。

赫达其后十三年里在北京度过的岁月，就是带着相机，骑着一辆自行车跑遍北京的大街小巷，名胜古迹，拍摄下如今大多已经荡然无存的旧日景物，留给后人嗟叹其珍贵价值的照片。
赫达·莫里逊除了北京之外，还到过很多地方，河北的正定、保定、热河，陕西的华山，山东的济南、泰安、威海、青岛以及南京、香港等地。这些地方的自然风光、名胜古迹、市井风情，也随之进入了她的镜头。
今天所发这一组是赫达·莫里逊在热河拍摄的一组照片。

承德周边山峦和河流。
热河，简称热，省会承德市，是中华民国的大陆省份之一，是关外塞北四省之一。民国三年（1914年）1月设置热河特别区，民国十七年（1928年）9月明令改制为省。1955年7月30日热河省被撤销。热河名称来源自承德避暑山庄内的温泉，温泉水流入武烈河后，武烈河下游在承德市内的部分，在当地冬季寒冷的气候下也不结冰，蒸汽蒸腾，所以被称为“热”河。
