这是第63天阅读英文版《傲慢与偏见》英文版。
上篇笔记讲到“她“夸宾利是个“好青年“，当时我还纠结“她“是谁，现在看来是简。
我本来认为是简，可是我把整段文字交给工具问是谁讲的，答复是“贝内特太太”，这下把我弄懵了，因此，上篇笔记我用了“她”来模糊其词，实际上应该直接给出“简夸赞宾利”。
“He is also handsome,” replied Elizabeth, “which a young man ought likewise to be, if he possibly can. His character is thereby complete.”
“他还很帅”，伊丽莎白回应，“要是可能的话，年轻男士应该是这样。他的特质因此是完整的。”

有几个词汇我给出简洁注释，尽管有的不是生词：
1. handsome
词性：形容词
含义：英俊的；帅气的
用法：形容宾利的外貌。
2. likewise
这个词对我来说是生词。
词性：副词
含义：同样地；也
用法：“ought likewise to be”，表示“同样应该具备”。
我补充3个例句，体会“likewise”的用法：
The whole gang of sailors, likewise, observing the press of spectators, and learning the purport of the scarlet letter, came and thrust their sunburnt and desperado-looking faces into the ring.

3. character
词性：名词
含义：性格；特质
用法：“His character”，他的特质。
我补充几个例句，体会“character”的用法：
I'm a pretty good judge of character.
我非常善于判别性格。
He's no longer a depressive character.
他不再是一个抑郁的人物。
Anger at injustice formed his character.
对不公正行为的愤怒塑造了他的性格。
Generosity is part of the American character.
慷慨是美国人性格的一部分。
4. thereby complete
词性：副词+形容词（短语）
含义：因此完整的
用法：“is thereby complete”，因此“趋于完美”。
我补充3个权威例句，提升一点句子的难度和实景运用，体会“thereby”的用法：
Cryptic thereby defies a troubling trend: Internet games, first ballyhooed as the next big thing, have struggled.
因此，Cryptic 公司打破了一个令人不安的趋势：曾被大肆宣扬为下一个重大事物的网络游戏，如今发展艰难。
Hartmann is exploiting this advantage by acquiring stakes in other utilities, thereby broadening PreussenElektra's distribution base.

我逐句拆解阅读一遍：
1. “He is also handsome,” replied Elizabeth,
“replied Elizabeth”，伊丽莎白回应。
2. “which a young man ought likewise to be, if he possibly can.”
likewise：同样地；
if he possibly can：略带调侃的假设。
3. “His character is thereby complete.”
“thereby”，因此；
“complete”，完整的。
这段对话是伊丽莎白夸赞宾利，继续看小说后续。
这个小说读着读着有意思起来了，就像很小的时候，在舅舅屋里找到一本繁体字的《三国演义》隔二片三似懂非懂地看得很投入。
我补充的例句很实用，都是来自英文世界的权威规范文本，可以一个句子一个句子的慢慢积累，熟悉的例句量大了，对英文水平的提高应该有益的。
读英文版《傲慢与偏见》对我来说是个慢功夫，我每天只能是一点一点的啃一段文字，蚂蚁啃骨头一样的朝前挪步。
因为这样细嚼慢咽的慢读，我觉得阅读的感觉舒适，没有那种仓促糊弄感，我的英文水平实际上很不足，这样的慢读细读适合我。
