三、深入解读
Lurk 一词可能最终源自中古英语luren（皱眉、潜伏），现在主要表示意图不轨地“埋伏、潜伏”，多是为了攻击某人或做不正当的事，比如：
- 有条貌似奄奄一息的鳄鱼就潜伏在水面下。A seemingly moribund crocodile waslurkingjust below the surface.
- 有个凶残的人藏在黑影里。Someone vicious waslurkingin the shadows.
也可以用来形容危险、疑虑、恐惧等不好的感觉或特征“暗藏、潜在”，比如：
- 夜晚这些街角隐藏着危险。At night, dangerlurksin these street corners.
- 在表象的背后似乎依然潜藏着英国的经济顽症。It seems that Britain's chronic economic malaise are stilllurkingbeneath the surface.
而在网络中， lurk 还可以用来表示在聊天群里“潜水、隐身”，即光阅读别人的聊天内容，自己却从不吱声。这种沉默潜水者也就被称为 lurker ，与之相对的常见活跃分子则有 troll （喷子）和 hater （黑子）等。
