Tom is old, and he lives by himself a long way from town.


汤姆年龄大了，他一个人住，离城镇很远。


One day he goes into town to buy something in some shops. Then he goes into a restaurant and sits down at a table.

有一天他进城去商店里买一些东西。然后他走进一家餐厅在一张桌子旁坐下。

When he looks around, he sees several old people put eyeglasses on before reading their newspapers.

当他环顾四周，他看到一些老人在看报纸之前戴上了眼镜。

So after lunch he walks to a shop to buy some glasses. The man in the shop makes him try on a lot of glasses, but Tom always says, “No, I can’t read with these.”

所以午餐过后，他走到商店去买一些眼镜。商店里的人让他试戴许多眼镜，但汤姆总是说:“不，戴上这些眼镜我就认不了字了。”

The man becomes more and more surprised. He says, “Excuse me, but can you read?”

这个人变得越来越惊讶，他说：“冒昧问一下，你认字吗？”

“No, of course I can’t!” Tom says, “I think some good glasses can help me.”

“当然不认识！”汤姆说，“我觉得某些好的眼镜可以帮助我。”
