2023年7月的一天，西班牙姑娘贝白（Begoña Martinez Gomez）手捧白色玫瑰，来到唐高宗李治与武则天的合葬墓乾陵。看着眼前巍峨的皇陵、屹立的石碑、威武的石像，那一刻，学习过中国历史的贝白，仿佛化身使者，回到一千多年前的大唐王朝，完成了一场穿越时空、跨越中西方文明的对话……
One day in July 2023, Begoña Martinez Gomez, a Spanish girl, with a white rose in her hand, walked up to the Qianling Mausoleum, the joint tomb of Emperor Gaozong Li Zhi and Empress Wu Zetian. Looking at the majestic imperial mausoleum, the standing stone tablets, and the imposing stone statues in front of her, at that moment, Begoña, who had studied Chinese history, felt like she had turned into a messenger, and return to the Tang Dynasty over a thousand years ago, completing a dialogue that transcended time and space and bridged Chinese and Western civilizations...

A Thesis on Wu Zetian
“唐朝是伟大的时代，大学时我做的武则天论文，老师给予了很高评价。”29岁的贝白来自西班牙莱昂，在妈妈的影响下，她从小就对遥远的中国产生兴趣。
“The Tang Dynasty was an amazing era. When I was in university, I wrote a thesis on Wu Zetian, and my teacher gave it a high evaluation,” says 29-year-old Begoña, who’s from León, Spain. Under the influence of her mother, she had been interested in the far-off China since childhood.

“我妈妈喜欢了解世界各地的文化，也常分享给我，教育我不要心存偏见。我最爱听她讲花木兰的故事。”贝白说，花木兰的勇气与坚韧，让她对中国女性有了最初的认识。
“My mother loves learning about cultures from all over the world and often shares them with me, teaching me not to be prejudiced. I love listening to her tell the story of Hua Mulan the most,” Begoña says. Hua Mulan’s courage and perseverance gave her the first impression of Chinese women.
大学时，贝白选择了世界史专业，主攻中国史方向，其间做了中国历史上众多女性的学习研究。
At university, Begoña chose the major of World History, focusing on Chinese history. During this period, she conducted in-depth studies on many Chinese women in history.
2019年，即将大学毕业的贝白，在莱昂大学孔子学院举办的一场国际会议上，发表了自己关于女皇武则天研究的演讲。
In 2019, just before her graduation, Begoña delivered a speech on her research on Empress Wu Zetian at an international conference held by the Confucius Institute of University of León.
“准确地说，是2019年5月2日，我会永远记得这天。”贝白介绍，演讲后，现场一位中国女嘉宾和她进行了交谈，肯定了她的演讲，鼓励她到中国看看。
“Precisely, it was on May 2nd, 2019. I will always remember this day,” Begoña says. After her speech, a Chinese lady guest at the conference approached her to chat, praised her speech, and encouraged her to visit China herself.
不久，贝白怀揣憧憬来到西安。对于为什么选择西安，贝白给出坚定的回答：“学中国历史，必须了解西安！”
Before long, Begoña came to Xi’an with great anticipation. When asked why she chose Xi’an, she answered without hesitation: “To study Chinese history, you must get to know Xi’an!”
贝白说，尽管是第一次来西安，她却感到十分亲切。对西安十三朝的建都史、数不清的历史遗存，因为提前做足了功课，她都有了深入了解。
Even though it was her first time in Xi’an, she felt right at home. Owing to her thorough preparation in advance, she had a deep understanding of Xi’an’s history as the capital of thirteen dynasties and its countless historical relics.
博物馆里当“导游”
Being a “Guide” in the Museum
2023年，研究生毕业的贝白，如愿得到了在西安工作的机会，成为西安外事学院国际合作学院的一名外教，教授英语和西班牙语。
In 2023, after graduating from postgraduate studies, Begoña landed her dream job in Xi'an and became a foreign teacher at the College of International Cooperation of Xi’an International University, teaching English and Spanish.
贝白的课堂风格轻松、幽默，很受学生喜欢。但她的教学并不限于课堂。
Begoña’s teaching style is relaxed and humorous, which makes her classes very popular among students. However, her teaching doesn’t stop in the classroom.

贝白的学生姜惠菡告诉记者，贝白总是积极拓展有趣的教学主题，让同学们保持强烈的学习兴趣，她鼓励学生以分享经历、文化研讨等方式输出，提高英语、西班牙语表达能力。贝白还会利用自己的眼界、阅历和历史专长，让学生得到更多收获。
Jiang Huihan, one of Begoña’s students, told the reporter that Begoña always actively expands interesting teaching topics to keep students’ strong learning interest. She encourages students to share experiences and cultural discussions to improve their English and Spanish expression abilities. Begoña also uses her broad vision, rich experience, and expertise in history to enable students to gain more.
“大明宫是唐代最恢宏壮丽的建筑，唐朝的皇帝在这里上朝听政……”2025年国庆假期，在大明宫国家遗址公园内，身材修长的“洋导游”贝白，边走边用中英双语给同行的姜惠菡等多名中国学生讲解着大明宫的历史，不时吸引人们注意。
“Da Ming Palace was the most magnificent and grand building in the Tang Dynasty. The emperors of the Tang Dynasty held court and administered the country here...” During the National Day holiday in 2025, the tall, slender “foreign tour guide” Begoña was walking around the Da Ming Palace National Heritage Park, explaining the history of Da Ming Palace in both Chinese and English to Jiang Huihan and several other Chinese students, attracting passers-by’s attention from time to time.
像这样有趣的画面在贝白身上经常发生。“西安有很多博物馆，我经常和朋友们去这些博物馆，给他们当‘导游’。”贝白说，陕西历史博物馆她去过7次，许多文物在她看来就像“老朋友”；陕西考古博物馆是她最喜欢的一座博物馆，那里展品精彩，讲解十分到位，她希望未来博物馆能提供更多语种讲解。
Such interesting scenes happen to Begoña all the time. “There are many museums in Xi’an, and I often go to these museums with my friends and act as a ‘tour guide’ for them,” Begoña says. She has visited the Shaanxi History Museum seven times, and many of the cultural relics there are like “old friends” to her. The Shaanxi Archaeology Museum is her favorite museum, with wonderful exhibits and detailed explanations. She hopes that in the future, museums can offer explanations in more languages.
“在西安，我最热爱的中国历史变得鲜活，它成为我生活的一部分，让我觉得自己很幸运！”贝白由衷地说。
“In Xi’an, the Chinese history I love the most has come alive. It has become a part of my life, making me feel very lucky!” Begoña says sincerely.
翻译名作下功夫
Working Hard to Translate Masterpieces
冬日的暖阳天，贝白身穿黑色新中式流苏马甲，手捧一本汉英对照版《贾平凹散文选》，坐在阅览室一角认真看着。
On a warm winter day, Begoña, dressed in a black neo-Chinese style fringed vest, was sitting in a corner of the reading room, nose-deep in a Chinese-English bilingual version of “Selected Prose of Jia Pingwa”.

贝白正在进行《贾平凹散文选》的西班牙语翻译工作。在2023年10月举办的《贾平凹散文选》多语种版本中国发布座谈会暨翻译授权仪式上，贾平凹为贝白等签发了授权书。
Begoña is currently working on the Spanish translation of “Selected Prose of Jia Pingwa”. At the China Release Symposium and Translation Authorization Ceremony of the multilingual versions of “Selected Prose of Jia Pingwa” held in October 2023, Jia Pingwa issued authorization letters to Begoña and others.
“我当时特别激动！”贝白回忆说，贾平凹是当代中国文坛的著名作家，是陕西文学的领军人物，他的作品展现着中国的社会变迁和人文历史、民风民俗。她希望通过这样优秀的中国文学作品外译，让更多西班牙人了解中国，爱上中国文化。
“I was extremely excited at that time!” Begoña recalled. Jia Pingwa is a renowned contemporary Chinese writer and a leading figure in Shaanxi literature. His works showcase China’s social changes, humanistic history, and folk customs. She hopes that through the translation of such excellent Chinese literary works, more Spaniards will come to understand and love Chinese culture.
“翻译著作并不容易，它十分考验译者的‘功底’。”贝白说，翻译著作不仅需要译者的语言功力，更需要深刻理解原作的思想、情感、表达习惯以及创作的文化背景等。如何精准转换，跨越中西方文化差异，让异国读者理解，是极具挑战的。
“Translating works is not easy. It greatly tests the translator’s ‘foundation’,” Begoña says. Translating works requires not only the translator’s language proficiency but also a deep understanding of the original work’s ideas, emotions, expression habits, and cultural background. To accurately convert and bridge the cultural differences between China and the West to make foreign readers understand is a significant challenge.
2025年，贝白参加了在大连举办的2025中国翻译协会年会。年会上，贝白发言，和与会嘉宾交流了自己在翻译贾平凹作品时遇到的问题，得到不少帮助。
In 2025, Begoña participated in the 2025 Annual Conference held by Translators Association of China in Dalian. At the conference, she shared the difficulties she encountered while translating Jia Pingwa’s works with the guests and received a lot of help.
在校期间，贝白还参加过学校举办的“唐诗西班牙语翻译”讲座、欣赏过西安外事鼓乐团的专业演出，接触到更多中华优秀传统文化。
During her school years, Begoña also attended a lecture on “Spanish Translation of Tang Poetry” organized by the school and enjoyed professional performances by the Drum Ensemble of Xi’an International University, where she comes into contact with more of China’s fine traditional culture.
闲暇时，贝白喜欢把自己的工作生活和远在家乡的亲人分享，让大家看到她的努力和成长。
In her spare time, Begoña loves to tell her family back home about her life and work in Xi’an, sharing her efforts and growth with them.
在西安的近三年，贝白度过了一个又一个美好的节日。刚刚过去的元旦跨年夜，她和朋友们像往年一样聚在一起，品美食、看晚会，一起倒计时，也不忘按照西班牙的习俗，在零点来临时，连续吃下12颗葡萄，带着对来年的美好祈愿，走进新的一年！
During her nearly three years in Xi’an, Begoña has spent many wonderful festivals. On the New Year’s Eve that just passed, she gathered with her friends as usual, enjoying delicious food, watching the gala, and counting down together. She also followed the Spanish custom of eating 12 grapes at midnight, making a wish, and stepping into the new year!
