最近有一款来自义乌的“哭哭马”公仔火了，这款公仔嘴角下垂，看起来似乎很不开心。
“哭哭马”的走红纯属意外，当时一名工人误将小马微笑的嘴角缝反了方向，导致笑脸变成一张委屈的哭脸。
但这一不完美反而引发了年轻人的共鸣，很多人将其视为“表面笑嘻嘻，心里哭唧唧”的情绪代言人。现在厂商正在加班加点赶制更多公仔。
“哭哭马”也引起了海内外媒体的兴趣。路透社将其称为"crying horse" toy，还有一些媒体将它称为"cry-cry horse" plush toy。
而且，很多媒体在报道的时候都用上了一个词：gallop。比如新加坡海峡时报（
The Straits Times）的句子：
A plush toy horse designed as a cheerful Chinese New Year mascothas gallopedinto unexpected popularity — with an ironic twist.
另一家媒体FMT有这样的说法：
Online, it has been christened the "crying horse", and its popularityhas gallopedfar beyond expectations.
新华社英文版也有这样的句子：
Turning things upside-down doesn't always mean chaos — it can actually open up surprising opportunities. That's the story behind a plush horse toy from Yiwu, China's famed "world's supermarket", whichhas gallopedinto the hearts of millions thanks to a manufacturing mix-up.
以上这些用词都是刻意为之，它属于英语里面的隐喻用法。
Gallop这个词跟“马”的形象强相关，它指的是“（马）飞奔、疾驰”。这个词放在小马公仔的语境里面非常贴切。
这个单词在上面报道的语境中可以引申为“（知名度、销量、影响力等的）急速传播与增长”。
比如A plush toy horse has galloped into unexpected popularity.相当于“一款毛绒马公仔竟一路奔红”。
Its popularity has galloped far beyond expectations.可以理解为“它的热度一路狂奔，远超预期”。
Galloped into the hearts of millions意思相当于“奔入了数百万人的心中”。
在商业和流行文化报道中，记者经常会避免使用陈词滥调。这里用gallop来描述“爆红”，比用go viral（病毒式传播）等词更契合主题，让人耳目一新。
实际上，gallop这个词频繁出现在与马年相关的英文材料里面。比如今年央视春晚的主题是“骐骥驰骋势不可挡”，对应的官方翻译是：
Galloping Steed, Onward Unstoppable
其中steed意思是“骏马”，galloping steed能够很好地写出骏马奔腾，一往无前的气势。
除了gallop之外，单词canter也经常出现在马年语境中，它指的是“（马）小跑，慢跑”。
比如国外一本家庭杂志在庆祝即将到来的马年推文中有这样的句子：
Canterinto the Year of the Horse with this festive showcase of Chinese culture featuring iconic blooms, lantern horses and classical Chinese architecture.
其中canter into the Year of the Horse相当于“轻盈奔赴马年”。整个句子可以翻译成：
轻盈奔赴马年，在这场喜庆的中国文化盛会中，欣赏标志性的花卉、骏马灯笼与古典建筑。
下方的gallop into prosperity意思是“驰骋奔向繁荣昌盛”。
