Sanae Takaichi, president of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, was elected as the country's 105th prime minister on Wednesday by lawmakers in parliament.

2月18日上午，日本政府召开内阁会议，高市早苗内阁集体辞职。当天晚些时候，在日本国会众议院首相指名选举第一轮投票中，高市早苗获得354票，得票数过半，在选举中胜出。

At an extraordinary Diet session that convened on the day, Takaichi first secured appointment as prime minister without a runoff vote in the lower house, and then won the most votes in a runoff in the upper house after no candidate secured a majority in the first vote.

2026年1月19日，高市早苗在首相官邸举行记者会宣布，于1月23日正式解散众议院。

据《日本经济新闻》2日报道，高市早苗明确表达修改宪法、将自卫队写入条文的意愿。由于日本宪法第九条第2款规定日本“不保持陆海空军及其他战争力量，不承认国家交战权”，高市上述修宪言论引发舆论的猛烈批评。

Takaichi wants to bolster Japan's military capability and arms sales, tighten immigration policies, push male-only imperial succession rules, and revise the postwar pacifist Constitution.

在2月8日举行的日本众议院选举中，由自民党和日本维新会组成的执政联盟获得过半数议席。这意味着高市早苗将继续执政。

2025年10月4日，日本前经济安全保障担当大臣高市早苗在自民党总裁选举中胜出，当选自民党第29任总裁。同月21日，在日本众议院首相指名选举第一轮投票中，高市早苗获胜，当选日本首相。
