Episode 5: The Habitat Garden We Talked into Life
True community building often starts from the ground up. This episode captures how grassroots participation transformed a neglected, overgrown lot in Changning District's Green Garden No. 8 Community into the thriving Leyi Habitat Garden, a project recognized by the United Nations. Over the course of 180 days and more than a dozen town-hall meetings, neighborhood residents volunteered their time, funds, and ideas to reimagine the space. By sharing the responsibilities of designing, building, and maintaining the garden, the community turned an environmental blind spot into a vibrant "public living room" that fosters neighborhood connection. The project stands as a testament to the power of localized, participatory democracy in creating shared ecological spaces.
