A police officer in Aba, Sichuan province, was killed in the line of duty during an armed manhunt, authorities said at a farewell ceremony honoring the fallen police officer on Friday.

The officer, Ewang Gela, was shot while taking a forward position to observe a most wanted armed suspect during an operation in Aba Tibetan and Qiang autonomous prefecture.

据“四川公安”微信公众号透露，2月27日，四川阿坝州红原县公安局得到线索：“潜逃25年的持枪杀人案犯罪嫌疑人索某某西出现在色地镇远牧点，身上可能藏有枪支”。在摸清其行动轨迹后，县局详细制定抓捕方案，熟悉本地情况的额旺格拉主动请缨参与此次抓捕任务。

Police in Hongyuan county said they received a tip-off on Feb 27 about a murder suspect who had been on the run for 25 years and was believed to be hiding at a remote site in Seddi township. Ewang Gela, who was familiar with the area, volunteered to join the operation.

10时31分，民警们悄然接近犯罪嫌疑人藏匿的远牧点，迅速呈扇形分布，包围索某某西及其哥哥尼某某让躲藏的砖瓦房。“全副武装”的额旺格拉戴着头盔身穿防弹衣，担起“观察哨”职责，冲在一线靠前搜索，仔细观察屋内动静。

额旺格拉借牛粪堆和木栅栏作为隐蔽物，小心翼翼移动寻找最好的观察点位，为后续抓捕中战友更安全、过程更顺利创造有益条件。不料，狡猾残暴的犯罪嫌疑人察觉异样后，从屋内隐秘处向屋外射击。

“砰！”枪声猝然沉闷响起，额旺格拉中枪。那一枪，正中他的颈部动脉，鲜血瞬间喷射而出，顺着防弹背心浸湿全身。

他晃了晃身体，讲不出话来，却没有立刻倒下——他咬着牙，捂住伤口战术回撤。战友迅速将他转移到后面马棚躺下。从中枪到倒下的12秒，他的鲜血很快染红了身下那片斑驳的枯草地，手里却紧握枪支不放。

抓捕还在继续！现场警力迅速调整战术，围捕追击犯罪嫌疑人。外围的战友很快赶来，将额旺格拉抬上警车。“坚持住！坚持住！”战友们用最快速度将他送往医院，但他再也无法回应。

在红原县人民医院，经过多部门联动全力抢救，由于伤势过重、失血过多，额旺格拉的心脏还是在当日16时03分49秒停止了跳动。

At 10:31 am, officers surrounded the hideout, with Ewang Gela moving forward in full gear to observe the situation. While taking cover to secure a better vantage point, he was shot in the neck when the suspect opened fire, later died in hospital from severe blood loss.

在这场抓捕行动中，额旺格拉壮烈牺牲、一名战友英勇负伤。在警方全力追缉和合围搜捕中，两名犯罪嫌疑人畏罪自杀，涉案仿制枪支和弹药全部缴获。

The operation continued as officers adjusted tactics and pursued two other suspects, who both later died by suicide. Firearms and ammunition were recovered.
