事发时，在Hibiscus Coast海滩北端，有人看到挖掘机正在移开岩石，救援人员与不断上涨的潮水“赛跑”。有目击者称，当时“海水已经拍打到岩石边缘了。他们小心地移开石块，最终成功将狗救出。”

新西兰消防与应急部门于下午1点刚过接到报警，并派出一辆消防车和三名消防员前往现场。一名发言人表示，现场动用了两台附近的挖掘机协助移开岩石，消防人员抵达约30分钟后成功将狗救出。

另一名目击者称，当时情况一度变得非常危急。“随着潮水上涨，一度看起来几乎没有希望，但最终在坚持不懈的努力下，加上第二台工程车辆的协助，他们成功将狗安全交还给主人。”
目击者表示，这次事件“险象环生”，当狗被救出的那一刻，现场所有人都欢呼起来。
