The United States and Iran agreed to a two-week pause in hostilities on Tuesday, with the US saying it would suspend attacks if Tehran fully reopened the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump said he had talked with the prime minister of Pakistan, which has been acting as a mediator between the warring parties.
"Subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE," Trump posted.
特朗普称，之所以作出这一决定，是因为美方“已达成并超额完成所有军事目标”。此外，关于与伊朗建立“长期和平”以及实现中东地区和平的最终协议，目前也已取得实质性进展。
"The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning long-term PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East."
他说，美方收到伊朗方面提出的一份10点建议，并认为该提案可作为开展谈判的可行基础。过去双方存在分歧的各项议题，美伊两国现已基本达成共识。而这两周的缓冲期，将有助于双方最终敲定并达成这份协议。
Reuters reported that the US had received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which Trump called "a workable basis on which to negotiate".
"Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and consummated," Trump posted.
夏巴兹稍早时候在社交媒体发文说：“旨在和平结束当前中东战事的外交努力正坚定有力地推进，有望在近期取得切实成效。”为给外交进程留出空间，他请求特朗普将“最后期限”延后两周，同时请求“伊朗兄弟”开放霍尔木兹海峡两周以示善意。夏巴兹同时呼吁交战各方停火两周，以便通过外交进程最终结束战争，维护中东地区长期和平与稳定。
"To allow diplomacy to run its course, I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks," Shehbaz Sharif wrote on X. "Pakistan, in all sincerity, requests the Iranian brothers to open Strait of Hormuz for a corresponding period of two weeks as a goodwill gesture. We also urge all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks to allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region."
