据 NHK 报道， 日本原子弹爆炸幸存者们在联合国一场重要核裁军会议召开前夕，抓住时机发声。他们参加集会，敦促日本为实现其终极目标——废除核武器——付出更大努力。
事件的背景是，各国代表将于4月27日起，在纽约联合国总部审议《不扩散核武器条约》（NPT）（International delegates will review the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons starting April 27）。
而这场集会于周五在日本东京举行，参与者包括原子弹爆炸幸存者团体日本被团协（日本原爆受害者团体协议会）的成员（The rally took place on Friday in Tokyo. The participants included members of atomic bomb survivors' group Nihon Hidankyo）。
该团体秘书长滨住治郎表示，当下的各类战争以及以武力谋求统治的行径，已然让《不扩散核武器条约》的存在意义遭到质疑（current wars and attempts to rule by force throw the significance of the NPT into question）。
他指出，日本作为全球唯一在战争中遭受过原子弹轰炸的国家，应当公开推动废除核武器（Japan, as the world's only country to have suffered atomic bombings during war, should openly push for nuclear abolition）。
滨住治郎还称，核武器是魔鬼的武器，人类与核武器无法共存。
日本被团协另一位负责人家岛正指出，幸存者人数正不断减少。他表示，他们不能在推动废核运动取得进展前离世（survivors are growing fewer in number. And he said they cannot die without advancing the movement to abolish nuclear weapons）。
家岛正说，日本应敦促《不扩散核武器条约》缔约国履行核裁军义务。
他还呼吁日本当局者迷，切实践行不拥有、不制造、不允许核武器入境的承诺（He also said the government should promote Japan's commitment tonot possessing, producing or permittingthe introduction of nuclear weapons into the country）。
