人工智能（AI）的底层根基完全是数学，依靠算法完成学习与预测。但我们能否优化AI，用以攻克高难度数学难题？近日由美国数学研究所（AIM）主办的一场学术活动，将此列为核心议题之一。该研究所依托美国国家科学基金会资助，坐落于加州理工理查德・N・默金（Richard N. Merkin）纯数学与应用数学中心。

五月底，四十位高校数学家与AI行业合作企业代表齐聚加州理工学院的美国数学研究所（AIM）本部，参加为期四天的AI与数论研讨会。数论是数学分支，专门研究整数的性质。参会学者来自美国各地、加拿大与英国，活动形式包含上午学术报告、下午分组研讨与晚间交流活动。

报告环节设置面向 AI 零基础学者的工具实操演示，多位学者分享自身借助AI解决数学难题的过往经历。例如英国布里斯托尔纯数学教授安迪・布克（Andy Booker）介绍，他与 AI 代码工具克劳德代码（Claude Code）合作，找到了研究L函数逆问题的全新思路 —— 该问题是数论核心课题。

研讨会首日下午，全体参会者共同梳理一份基准问题清单，计划交由AI尝试求解。

本次研讨会五位联合组织者之一、加拿大滑铁卢大学数学教授迈克尔・鲁宾斯坦（Michael Rubinstein）表示：“清单里题目难度跨度极大，既有困扰数论学者数十年、近乎无解的世界级难题，也有值得深耕、但只需投入一定工作量的趣味问题。”

会前征集待解问题是美国数学研究所（AIM）研讨会的特色流程；参会者大部分时间将以分组形式讨论这些问题。活动结束后，整套问题清单会发布在研究所官网，面向全社会开放查阅（详情参阅本文末附录）。

研讨会联合组织者、通用AI实验室 Harmonic 的研发工程师亚历克斯・梅伯格（Alex Meiburg）谈道：“美国数学研究所常规研讨会会聚焦单一数学问题，各组从不同细分角度切入；本次研讨覆盖面更广，主题为AI与数论交叉，目标是让所有人了解当下 AI 能为数学研究提供哪些助力，以及未来一两年我们期待 AI 实现的辅助能力。”

梅伯格同时也是加拿大滑铁卢独立基础物理研究机构圆周理论物理研究所博士后。他认为本次研讨会最大收获，并不局限于 AI 求解数学题本身，更多是AI赋能数学研究的多元路径。

“我们发现 AI 能大幅提速数学研究中的试算、头脑构思环节。” 梅伯格解释，比如编写代码这件事，数学家原本要耗时两周的工作量，借助 AI 仅需半小时就能完成。“我们正迎来快速试算、快速推演的全新研究模式。”

鲁宾斯坦认同 AI 将加速数学发现进程。他表示，过去一年，前沿大语言模型（如 Anthropic 公司的克劳德、OpenAI 的 ChatGPT 这类专用 AI）在推导数学解题思路、抽象推演方面能力突飞猛进。

“顶尖大模型学习了人类全部知识文本，还能顺畅打通不同数学分支的方法，实现跨领域迁移。” 鲁宾斯坦补充。

梅伯格坦言，尽管本次研讨讨论的多数问题暂无落地应用前景，但数论课题往往在多年后诞生出人意料的实用价值，现代密码学就是典型案例。

“这场研讨会让我们摸清了 AI 处理数学问题的可行路径，我期待本次积累的经验可以迁移到更多具备实际应用的经典难题上。我乐观地认为，AI能让更多人感受到数学的趣味与魅力。”

物理学研究生米凯莱・塔尔基尼（Michele Tarquini）参与了本次研讨会，希望了解AI有望取得突破的全新数学课题，同时理清数学家对 AI 潜在作用的构想。

塔尔基尼说：“参会前我便认为，AI在数学、理论物理等理论学科蕴藏巨大、尚待充分挖掘的潜力。听完各路学者观点，我发现越来越多的数学家开始关注 AI 在数学领域的应用前景。”

同时他也指出，依靠AI攻克艰深数学问题绝非一蹴而就。针对特定难题匹配适配工具仍存在困难，验证一套方法是否有效也需要漫长周期。但参会者梳理出大量适配 AI 求解的数学问题。

“我相信，一套借助AI求解复杂数学问题的成熟工具，其影响力将不止局限于数学领域。这类工具会推动AI全领域发展，催生覆盖各行各业、深度影响社会的落地应用。”

约翰・D・麦克阿瑟理论物理与数学讲席教授、美国数学研究所执行主任谢尔盖・古科夫（Sergei Gukov）表示，研究所首次举办AI数学专题研讨会令他倍感振奋，计划持续推出同类活动。

“AI迭代速度日新月异，正重塑数学研究范式，本次研讨收获诸多宝贵经验。” 同时兼任默金中心主任的古科夫说道，“很高兴看到 Anthropic、Harmonic 等多家行业企业代表到场参会，我期待以此为起点，建立长期稳定的产学研合作。”
