South Africa international midfielder Jayden Adams, who featured in all three of his side's group stage games at the 2026 World Cup, has died, the country's sports ministry said on Saturday. No cause of death was given.

麦肯齐在11日发布的声明中表示：“我怀着无比震惊和沉痛的心情得知马梅洛迪日落队和南非国家队的中场球员杰登·亚当斯不幸去世……南非足球失去一位耀眼的年轻天才，全国人民与他的家人、队友以及数百万球迷一同哀悼。”
South Africa's Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie expressed his condolences. "Our nation mourns alongside his family, his teammates and the millions of supporters who watched him grow from a promising academy prospect into a full Bafana Bafana international," McKenzie said in a statement.
南非足球运动员联盟同日发表声明，对亚当斯英年早逝“悲痛欲绝”。声明说，在世界杯赛场，肩负着国家希望的亚当斯展现了勇气和卓越的球技，他的离世对家人、队友、俱乐部、足球界乃至整个国家来说都是“无法估量的损失”。
"The South African Football Players Union is devastated by the untimely passing of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder, Jayden Adams," the SAFPU, an official body for players in the country, said in a statement Saturday. "His passing is an immeasurable loss to his family, teammates, clubs, the football fraternity and the country at large."
亚当斯死讯最初由当地媒体从其家人处证实后披露，但未对相关细节进行报道。个别社交媒体称亚当斯系因抑郁自杀。亚当斯的祖母在世界杯期间不幸去世。
The player's grandmother died a day before South Africa played the Czechs, and he was replaced at halftime during the fixture.

The Mamelodi Sundowns player started South Africa's first two games, a 0-2 defeat against host Mexico and a 1-1 draw against Czechia. He then came off the bench in the 1-0 upset victory over South Korea that sent South Africa to the Round of 32.
