【MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT】CKWA Earns Cognia Accreditation | Global Standards, Future-Ready Minds

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT

In July 2026, Beijing Chaoyang Kaiwen Academy (CKWA) officially received international accreditation from Cognia, a world-renowned educational quality assurance organization.

How authoritative is Cognia?

With a history of over 125 years, Cognia is one of the largest and most authoritative international educational quality assurance organizations in the world, often referred to as the "Oscar" of education.

Earning Cognia accreditation signifies that a school has met global standards for educational quality, student engagement, campus culture, effective learning environments, educational data, instructional management, and administrative operations. It places CKWA among the world's outstanding international schools, and our transcripts and diplomas are now highly recognized by universities worldwide.

Cognia Accreditation · CKWA Evaluation Summary

Beijing Chaoyang Kaiwen Academy demonstrated exceptional educational quality and distinctive cultural confidence throughout the Cognia accreditation evaluation. The school has cultivated a respectful, equitable, and unbiased campus ecosystem, consistently shaping a positive and inclusive growth environment through institutional frameworks and cultural immersion. The leadership team, united by a shared commitment to "support, trust, innovation, and craftsmanship," has guided the entire school toward a cohesive educational vision.

In teaching and learning, the school has established a comprehensive support system that addresses students' academic, emotional, and social development, offering diverse and personalized learning pathways to help every student discover their potential and pursue excellence. At the same time, CKWA places great emphasis on teacher professional growth, with systematic recruitment, training, and evaluation mechanisms in place to ensure continuous improvement in educational quality.

CKWA is committed to a student-centered approach, integrating Chinese and international educational resources, and promoting innovative practices to cultivate future-ready talents with a global perspective and intrinsic motivation. This accreditation is not only an authoritative affirmation of the school's achievements but also a new starting point for high-quality development.

Principal Madeleine Ma previously served as a Cognia accreditation reviewer, participating in the accreditation of five schools both domestically and internationally.

Message from the Principal

Receiving Cognia international accreditation is a strong affirmation of Beijing Chaoyang Kaiwen Academy's educational philosophy and practice system, and a significant milestone on our journey toward educational excellence.

Cognia's evaluation not only recognized our campus culture of "respect, equity, and impartiality" but also validated our systematic efforts in personalized support, teacher professional development, and holistic student growth. This achievement is the result of the sustained dedication and unwavering commitment of our entire faculty and staff.

What pleases me even more is that the school profile depicted in the accreditation report closely aligns with our cultural aspirations of "support, trust, vitality, innovation, and craftsmanship." We have always believed that the essence of education is to unleash the inner strength of every child, enabling them to be their authentic selves in an environment of respect, trust, and support.

This accreditation is not an endpoint but a new beginning. CKWA will continue to be student-centered, professionalism-grounded, and innovation-driven, continuously refining our teaching and learning to build a solid foundation for every student's growth and future.

— Principal, Chaoyang Kaiwen Academy

You might ask, what enabled CKWA to earn recognition through Cognia's rigorous evaluation? This semester's three signature events offer some answers:

Annual Academic Gala

The CKWA community's annual Academic Gala is not only a celebration of our students' outstanding achievements but also a testament to their perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and unwavering commitment to learning.

Selected Awards Presented:

•iGEM International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition — Global Silver Award

•AMC 10/12 American Mathematics Competition — Top 10% Globally & AIME Qualifiers

•UKMT-IMC Intermediate Mathematical Challenge — Global Gold Award

•CTB Global Youth Research Innovation Forum — Finalist at Harvard Global Forum

Annual Sports Gala

At the Sports Gala, CKWA was officially inducted as a member of the Ivy League International Sports Alliance, while recognizing the outstanding performances of 28 sports teams, over 300 athletes, and both Chinese and international coaches and student volunteers.

Notably, the High School Basketball Team earned the "Highest GPA Team Award" with an average GPA of 3.71, achieving the distinction of excelling in both competitive sports and academic performance.

TEDx Speech Event

In January 2026, CKWA's inaugural TEDx speech event was successfully held. Independently initiated and curated by high school students, every aspect—from theme development and stage design to operations, promotion, and speaker coaching—was planned and executed by the students themselves.

Through this international, high-standard, and professional platform for ideas, they proved that leadership is not something to be "shaped" from the outside, but something to be "expressed and acted upon" from within.

Earning Cognia's rigorous accreditation was not the result of a last-minute push, but of years of dedicated educational practice. Below are the key innovations on CKWA's journey toward educational excellence:

Innovation 1: Academic Excellence as the Lifeline

Pursuing academic excellence is our enduring mission—its essence lies in equipping students with a thinking toolkit for a complex world, including critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and a lifelong love of learning.

Three pillars support our "Academics First" framework:

1.Data-Driven Personalized Learning – Giving every student an "academic navigation system" that tracks performance, offers course recommendations, and provides early warnings to ensure the right learning pathways.

2.Building a Research-Oriented Faculty – Elevating teaching from "knowledge transmission" to "cognitive activation," empowering teachers as curriculum designers and educational innovators.

3.Creating an Immersive Learning Ecosystem – Through inquiry-based classrooms, innovation labs, and a vibrant academic culture, nurturing students as discoverers and creators.

In teaching methodology, CKWA goes beyond traditional instruction, actively implementing Project-Based Learning (PBL), IB inquiry-based classrooms, and integrating cutting-edge AI tools.

Our elementary students developed skills in information synthesis, critical thinking, and public speaking; our middle school students expanded their reading horizons and cognitive depth, applying abstract theories to solve real-world problems, cultivating engineering thinking and innovative practice.

The Class of 2026 international stream graduates received an average of 6 offers per student, including Top 10 U.S. universities, UK G5 institutions, and Hong Kong Top 3 universities—further validating the school's academic strength and educational quality.

Innovation 2: Holistic Education in Practice

CKWA strongly integrates the three core competencies—Arts, Sports, and STEM—into its curriculum, ensuring that academic excellence, aesthetic appreciation, health, and innovation develop in parallel.

In Sports, we encourage students to fully engage in athletics—not just for competition and results, but as a lifestyle that promotes physical and mental well-being.

From the Pre-K level, we champion "everyone can skate, everyone can swim." Beyond swimming and ice skating as compulsory courses, we offer over 14 sports programs (including tennis, fencing, baseball, golf, football, volleyball, badminton, martial arts, and dance) for students to choose from based on their interests.

These offerings are supported by world-class facilities, professional coaching teams, systematic safety protocols, and scientific training processes—forming a sustainable "Kaiwen-style athletic development model."

In Arts Education, from Pre-K through high school, the school provides a 12-year progressive arts education system.

This system encompasses appreciation, analysis, creation, and public performance/exhibition—enhancing students' artistic literacy and practical skills at every stage.

Through cultural events such as lower-grade carnivals, upper-grade Talent Shows, and the annual school-wide production, we create platforms that cross age boundaries and welcome all students—ensuring every child finds their own spotlight.

In STEM Education, starting from Pre-K and Grade 1, CKWA has implemented an integrated STEAM curriculum that weaves together mathematics, artificial intelligence, technology, and innovative thinking—embedding the spirit of innovation into children's growth from an early age.

At the elementary level, students have three weekly science classes taught in English, alongside foundational programming courses, building scientific thinking from the start.

At the secondary level, after five years of development, we have established the STEAME Future Center—a flagship resource encompassing the Creative Thinking Space, STEM Innovation Center, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, AI Exploration Academy, and a joint biology laboratory. Our goal is to cultivate "future-oriented innovative talents with a sense of national identity and global competitiveness."

Innovation 3: Teacher Professional Learning Community

CKWA is consistently student-centered. Under Principal Ma Deling's leadership, the school has brought together a team of educators with great passion, a strong sense of responsibility, and boundless innovative energy.

•Student-to-Teacher Ratio: 5:1

•Chinese Teachers' Average Teaching Experience: 15 years

•International Teachers' Average Teaching Experience: 17 years

•Teachers with Master's or Higher Degrees: 51%

"Recruitment, Development, Evaluation, Advancement" is the integrated system CKWA has carefully designed for teachers throughout their career lifecycle, aiming to build a professional and effective developmental community.

The school continually provides both on-campus and off-campus professional development opportunities. For instance, during our annual "Teacher Professional Development Learning Community Days" (PD Days), teachers break down divisional and disciplinary boundaries to engage in in-depth discussions around real classroom practices.

These sessions produced 23 model lessons. Teachers designed posters highlighting key practices from these lessons, allowing other groups to "visit" and learn from each other's outstanding teaching methods.

With "craftsmanship" as our foundation and "innovation" as our engine, CKWA ensures that our teachers serve as academic leaders through high-standard recruitment, ongoing professional development, and a culture of "scholar-practitioners."

Standing at this new starting point, CKWA will continue to deepen academic excellence and holistic education, embracing educational innovation with an open mind—so that every student can find their own rhythm of growth and step confidently onto the world stage.
