A delivery rider in Zhengzhou, Henan province, has defended a customer who came under online criticism after tipping him 50 yuan for rushing life-saving medication, saying the customer had already shown more than enough gratitude.

The incident occurred on Sunday when 23-year-old courier Zhang Shuaiyuan received an order for human serum albumin urgently needed by a seriously ill patient. After learning of the situation, he completed the roughly 8-kilometre delivery in 17 minutes while riding safely, 14 minutes ahead of the platform's estimated arrival time.

10时31分,订单指派至他手中;

10时35分,他抵达取件地点,4分钟后完成取货、离店;

The customer thanked Zhang repeatedly and tipped him 50 yuan after the medicine arrived. However, some social media users later accused the customer of tipping too little, while others falsely claimed no tip had been paid.

"I felt really upset seeing the customer being attacked online," Zhang said, stressing that the customer had paid both the delivery fee and the tip, and that he would have been satisfied even without any extra payment.

Zhang later posted on social media to clarify the facts and defend the customer. The customer, who declined media interviews, later offered to send him another red envelope, but Zhang refused, saying he simply hoped the family could return to their normal life as soon as possible.
