Many users continue to use their long-held QQ email accounts, seeing the familiar numbers as a connection to their early internet memories.
For a generation that grew up with the internet, QQ numbers were among the first strings of digits they memorized and often became their first "online ID".
Although many now use other email services, the familiar number remains easy to recall. Once linked to games, online platforms and daily communication, it became deeply embedded in their digital lives.
If WeChat represents today's social and professional interactions, QQ Mail is like a digital safe sealed by time. It preserves memories of early internet experiences — from school assignments and class photos shared with classmates to graduation messages and birthday greetings. Even today, some users can still find old emails waiting in their inboxes.
For many, the QQ number was far more than a set of numbers. Long before smartphones grew prevalent and people memorized their ID card numbers, this sequence had already been etched into their memories. It is more than a tool for sending emails — it is a marker of their journey through the years.
In a fast-changing digital world, continuing to use that familiar account has become a way for many users to preserve a piece of personal history.
