5 | Try Coffee Made by a Robot

In the arena, competitors use intelligent equipment and digital skills to push the limits of precision. On a city street corner, coffee made by a robot brings technology into everyday life.

As a city at the forefront of practical AI applications, Shanghai has brought cutting-edge technology out of the laboratory and into places people visit every day. Robot-made coffee is one lively example.

With precise mechanical controls and programmed algorithms, the robotic coffee system recreates a barista’s brewing process. It controls water temperature, flow, pouring height, and extraction time as it grinds beans, pours water, brews in circles, and even creates latte art.

Guests can watch the robotic arm at work as the coffee slowly filters into the cup and a delicate pattern appears on top. Pick up the finished drink, savor its rich aroma, and enjoy a small taste of technology in daily life.

Order with a tap, and the robotic arm gets to work: grinding beans, extracting coffee, frothing milk, and creating latte art. In under two minutes, a freshly made cup is ready. Cyberbucks Cafe is Shanghai’s first smart robotic food-service kiosk. Its robots also make ice cream and cook noodles.

The dual-arm coffee robot handles everything from picking up a cup and grinding beans to extracting espresso, frothing milk, and making latte art. A freshly brewed cup is ready in about 100 seconds.

The fully automated ice cream robot handles the process from preparation to serving. One unit can produce hundreds of servings a day, making it well suited to busy shopping streets and theme parks.

The smart noodle robot recreates the traditional process, from making and cooking noodles to lifting them from the pot, with no human intervention. It serves meals quickly and consistently, with a choice of noodle shapes and soup bases for office workers in the area.

If you come across a COFE+ Robot Coffee Kiosk on the streets of Shanghai, stop for a cup.

The COFE+ kiosk is an unmanned coffee shop occupying just 2.5 square meters. Even from a distance, it looks futuristic. Through the glass, you can see its robotic arm, drink dispensers, cups, and lids.

Tap the screen, choose a drink, and adjust its strength, temperature, sweetness, and ice level. Once you order, the beans in the transparent hopper are ground fresh and brewed.

The robotic arm moves with remarkable dexterity, locating ingredients, adding syrup, frothing milk, and snapping the lid into place. In less than 50 seconds, your coffee is ready.

Besides coffee, the robot coffee kiosk can also make drinks like matcha latte and milk chocolate. There are more than 50 types of drinks to choose from, as well as two choices of Arabica and organic coffee beans.
