bound 这个词含义很多，因为它拥有四种性质。它原本是动词 bind 的过去式和过去分词，后来有了形容词词性。大家可能对 be bound to do sth 这个短语更眼熟，表示「很有可能做某事，肯定会做某事」。相信没人不希望自己考试顺利通过，那么你可以在考前给自己打气：You're bound to pass the exam.
be bound for 表示「前往」某地，故文中 on the FlyDubai aircraft bound for Israel from the UAE 意思是「在那架从阿联酋飞往以色列的迪拜航空飞机上」。

这个形容词，由否定前缀 un- 和 mitigated 构成。其中 mitigate 表示 to make a situation or the effects of something less unpleasant, harmful, or serious「减轻，缓解」，虽然不在四六级、考研大纲词汇中，但外刊挺常用，而且六级、考研也都考过。
unmitigated 便是「没有减轻的」，即「完全的」，经常跟负面事物搭配，比如 an unmitigated disaster，我们可译为「一场彻头彻尾的灾难」。偶尔也可用于正面表达，如 an unmitigated success「彻底的成功」。这句话来看 2024 年的考研真题。

4️⃣be cast in stone
cast 有很多含义。这里不是「投掷」，而是将液态材料倒入模具，使其凝固成固定形状，比如 cast a statue in bronze「用青铜铸造雕像」。因此，be cast in stone 字面意思就是某个东西被塑造成石头制品。石头坚硬，不容易改变，于是这个表达逐渐引申为「固定不变，不可轻易修改」。用一个成语来概括就是「一成不变」。不过这个短语更常写为 be set in stone。
