当地时间2月16日晚，在大跳台决赛后的新闻发布会上，有外国记者提问谷爱凌，“觉得自己是赢得了两枚银牌，还是丢掉了两枚金牌？”
对此，谷爱凌直接回应：“这种想法很荒谬（it's a ridiculous perspective to take）。”
谷爱凌说：“我是历史上最成功的自由式滑雪女运动员，我觉得这个事实本身就是答案。 ”
China's freeski superstar Gu Ailing claimed two silver medals at the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics in Italy, in the women's freestyle skiing slopestyle and big air events.
When asked by a foreign journalist at a post-competition press conference on Monday whether she felt she had won two silvers or lost two golds, Gu dismissed the question as "a ridiculous perspective to take". "I'm the most decorated female freeskier in history," she added. "I think that's an answer in and of itself."
米兰冬奥会上，谷爱凌先后在自由式滑雪女子坡面障碍技巧和女子大跳台两个项目上摘得银牌。自北京冬奥会以来，她个人获得的冬奥奖牌已达两金三银，成为全世界自由式滑雪女运动员中首位五枚奥运奖牌得主。
Since her medal wins at the Beijing Winter Olympics, she has now earned a total of two gold and three silver Olympic medals, making her the first female freestyle skier in the world to win five Olympic medals.
“赢得奥运奖牌对每位运动员来说都是改变人生的经历。做到五次，难度是指数级增加的。每一枚奖牌对我来说都一样难，但是其他人的期待在升高。所以，‘丢掉两枚金牌’这个视角，坦白说我觉得这种说法很荒谬。我在展现最好的自己，我在做前所未有的事情，这已经足够好了。”
"Winning a medal at the Olympics is a life-changing experience for every athlete. Doing it five times is exponentially harder because every medal is equally hard for me. But everybody else's expectations rise, and so the two medals lost situation, to be quite frank with you, I think it's kind of a ridiculous perspective to take."
"I'm showcasing my best skiing. I'm doing things that literally have never been done before, and so I think that is more than good enough," said Gu.
本届冬奥会上，谷爱凌参加三个项目的比赛，分别是坡面障碍技巧、大跳台和U型场地技巧，其中大跳台是她最后决定参加的比赛。米兰冬奥周期，她从未参加过国际雪联旗下的大跳台赛事。这是她四年来第一次站上大跳台国际赛场。
大跳台决赛后，谷爱凌说：“今天我觉得最重要的一点是，我敢上场。原本我没计划要赛大跳台，但既然已经到了，能上场，为什么不去试试？为什么不让世界看到最好的自我？无论输赢，能让世界看到我敢上场，这已经是我的金牌了。”
谷爱凌最终能参加大跳台比赛，是由赛事规则体系和她个人参赛意愿决定的。根据国际雪联公布的米兰冬奥会资格体系，自由式滑雪坡面障碍技巧和大跳台实行合并配额管理。从最终公布的配额结果来看，中国队在女子坡面障碍技巧/大跳台项目中获得4个名额，达到单队参赛上限，实现满额参赛。
具体到个人层面，谷爱凌在坡面障碍技巧积分榜中排名靠前，获得一个合并类别的奥运名额。由于坡面障碍技巧和大跳台共用同一个配额，她在获得资格后即可同时报名参加这两个项目的比赛。
按照赛程安排，本届冬奥会自由式滑雪项目依次进行坡面障碍技巧、大跳台和U型场地技巧比赛。谷爱凌最具优势的U型场地技巧最后进行。
冬奥会开赛前，外界普遍关注她是否会在比完第一项后，为降低受伤风险而放弃赛程中段的大跳台比赛，以全力备战U型场地技巧的比赛。但是，谷爱凌选择了站上大跳台，并为中国代表团又一次摘得银牌。
